my parents were born n brought up in kannur. and i visit my native almost every year.
well its rightly said that CPM AND BJP clash is evident in kerala especially kannur.
this is not restricted to only political workers. u can witness clashes between brother-n-brother,dad and son in the same family in defense of their resp party.
my father happens to support marxist and my mom kinda congress supporter.And i'm witness to many such diff of opinion in support of thier resp parties.
which is quite entertaining to watch and hear.This only goes to prove that in spite of being away from their home keralites can never give up their fav passtime ie politics.
well,to add,my dad in his young days used to go for ralllies hoisting flags of marxist party.
but soon he realised this wont yield him much benefit in future and hence he made his journey to Mumbai-the city of dreams.
I don't agree to Mr.Iype's view. He has given the impression that Kannur is a violence aread like earlier Punjab / Kashmir. The level of communial harmony in Kannur is far better then any district in INdia. Regarding political murders it is purely because of CPM. Last 4 to 5 Years violence was less due to the reason that power was not with them ( Congrees is ruling the state) Once CPM get majority in this election once again there will policitcal murders taking place.
The article "Kannur: A history of violence" is simply blown out of proportion. As a person who has lived in Kannur for more than two decades (and is my hometown), I clearly dismiss the statement that Kannur is a Violence hit district. IT IS NOT. This article creates an impression in the minds of readers that Kannur can be compared to Bihar or other North Eastern states where there is nothing like a secret ballot sort of thing....
yes it is a hard and undenied fact.u go anywhere in world and would find two cadres Communists and Muslim Jehadis are always involved in bloodshed.In India Congress became another partner in this game and forced peace loving Hindus to backlash.You attend any RSS shakha and would find that they never preached violence,yes they teach u not to be a coward.Hindu Communists and Congressmen always divided society. It is a fact that the violence in kannur was always cherished by leaders of both CPIM and BJP for their political gains. and it is also true that in all these continuous incidences, same people were involved violence. it was the failure of the police department to put the miscreants behind bars that caused murder after murder. now after recent many court verdicts giving death and life imprisonment to the guilty involved, the incidents has almost stopped. the court should have woke up much earlier. it is funny that the number of people punished so far in kannur incidents is very small compared to the number of murders/violences. all of them were protected by their leaders.
kannur is a strong hold of Marxizt party but they also dont allow any other organistions to work there. If we check anu violence there in Kannur dist it will be agianst CPIM the otherside will be RSS,Congres or Muslim League even the CPI cant escape from the attacks of CPIM. The reason for the violence in Kannur is the intolerence of CPIM. Even they had started attacking the Minorites also.
Although true to an extend I can not fully agree with with the comments made by Mr.Iype.Being person hailed from Kannur, i would rather say that Kannur is always spotted even for the crimes committed in its neighbour districts, Calicut, Wynad and Kasargod.All political parties should be blamed for political tensions and it is those from outside who creat troubles... But for the last 6 to seven years Kannur is totally calm and the violent hit areas like Nadapuram,Thrissur etc. are not in Kannur.
