Kannur: A history of violence........?
by Abhilash on Apr 19, 2006 02:22 PM

Although true to an extend I can not fully agree with with the comments made by Mr.Iype.Being person hailed from Kannur, i would rather say that Kannur is always spotted even for the crimes committed in its neighbour districts, Calicut, Wynad and Kasargod. All political parties should be blamed for political tensions and it is those from outside who creat troubles... But for the last 6 to seven years Kannur is totally calm and the violent hit areas like Nadapuram,Thrissur etc. are not in Kannur.

VIOLENCE IN KANNUR
by JOHN RAJAN on Apr 19, 2006 01:27 PM

It has been interesting to read your article. Then Kannur is the field of Communist Experimentation. True the facists may have infuriated them and the party bosses have smelt a threat to their cadre. But the entire responsiblity of violence in Kannur rests with CPM. When you see the track record of any other mainstream party, you do not find the the plot of physical elimination of opponents being practised by them to the extent which CPM does. CPM just can not tolerate any other ideology. When they forsee a threat, they react in this way. Now even hardcore party loyalists have find it difficult to justify their activities. Look at the situation in Kerala, the youth are just running away to other places in search of a job. Still these Marxists feel they are doing great service by patronising certain organised labour unions, like white collar Govt employees who are a burden on the exchequer, Teachers who hardly teaches,Electricity workers, who without bribe do not even give electricity to maintain a mortuary, Transport workers, who even after nationalisation of all roads could not meet their day to day expenses and still asking from the Government. My Kerala I weep for you.

kannur has had violent episodes but in very restricted areas and solely between political activists. however they must not be termed as communal issues. infact the communal harmony that exists in Kannur is amazing. but political lords from various parts of the state have creaed battalions in kannur to spark off poiltical murders and fights to satisfy their political aims. many politicians have been born out of this land but not a single one of them do anything for the betterment or improvement of the social, political, cultural and developmental situation in the district. the monopoly of such benefits have always stayed with the southern parts of the state. i must also add none of the bloodshed involved the local public who had nothing to do with the political issues and the public have never been harmed. what happens is what can be termed as gang wars between political mafia groups.
