mixed reaction
by karthikeyan on Apr 27, 2006 06:18 PM

i am not entirely content with ur reading of the whole resource issue. I agree, TN is rich in many resources.. but the key sector Agriculture in predominantly depended on the neighbouring states. recap the state\'s status quo in the past two decades. TN was heavily dependent on Kar, Keral and Andhra (AP to a certain extent). Georgraphically this, state is relying on the draining water from neighbouring states. problems do not surface when Kar and Keral enjoy surplus rain, but for that, its time for the govts to take to warpath.. so, its not entirely true to say that the state is rich in resources. the most vital resource,, water is a perrenial problm here. so have no doubts about that. With regard to te manifesto\'s,, u c,, politicians are clever, they have announced packages only for the ones who cast their vote.. so first let the so called `city dwellers\'vote,then they can think about amenities.. so as a sincere citizens caste ur vote first..
for ur information, i am karthik from Coimbatore, working as a reporter for a leading National English Daily. now in Coimbatore.

UDF's UNITY ONLY IN ELECTION TIME
by Sudhakar on Apr 13, 2006 05:57 PM

In Kerala, everybody is talking about Development, but what kind of development, only in IT section. What about development in Agricultural Sector, without any development in agricultural sector, no states especially like kerala can achieve a total development. Firstly the political parities must be given priority to the basic needs of people. Availability of Drinking water to all people, distribution of food grains thru rationing shops to below poverty line, and electricity to all area are the main things to be carried out. Further, Remittance from Gulf Malayalies is the main source of income for kerala. Their funds must be utilized for development purpose instead of taking loans from ADB and other sources, but unfortunately our both Political Front Parties are not giving any importance to those Gulf Malayalies problems.

In my opinion, LDF is better than UDF, because in the Nayanaar Govt had implemented lot of plans to Gulf Malaylies, but after the LDF, UDF Govt. had neither implemented any new program nor they continued the previous Governments program for Gulf Malayalies. In the present LDF manifesto show a little positive approach to sort out Gulf Malayalies problems.

UDF present development talks are just a political stunt, because since the last four years they were ignored the peoples problems and rather they are more interested in power and infighting in between them. Why they did go for implementation Mandal commission, implementation of Employees Salary commission, even signing of Smart city agreement at the end of their tenure, if they were really want to implement or any reforms to People of Kerala, they must have taken the steps earlier. Why UDF is not revealing the detailed Smart City agreement report to the people, if it is good for Kerala. If we given again a chance to UDF, the history will repeat, even before the voting they have started infighting. People of Kerala aware of that UDF are coming together only when the state election starts. Further, most of their candidates are involved in Criminal cases, Scandals, Corruptions etc. So, before casting our votes, think twice.

To anusha - Answer part 2-Things are bad- but compared to the North TN is far better in administration
by shankar on Apr 08, 2006 04:06 PM

Each state government in India had the same 59 years after
independence-with lots of time with democratically elected
independent powers to
to have done wonders for their state. You cannot
prove logically your statement that invasions and lack of resources in
other states compared to tamilnadu means that
tamilnadu should be much better off than it is today( on
a relative comparison with other states).Your statement does not hold
water. you cannot even prove that tamilnadu has more natural
resources than all north indian states. The standard of living in
tamilnadu today that you enjoy in tamilnadu is built by the people
and the governments of tamilnadu over years. And further- talking
about utlization of resources- tamilnadu has utilized its resources
better than most northern states. Polititians in UP, Bihar etec etc have
not utilized their resources as well as tamilnadu, you can never
logically prove with a researched report that Tamilnadu
governments have been WORSE than the Northern
states.Administration reflects in proof and the statistics of how far
ahead is tamilnadu. On an ABSOLUTE scale-
yes - TN administration was bad- but COMPARITIVELY TN is far
better.

To Anusha - answer - 1

The first things any government is expected to take care of is
availibility of food, water , electricity, sanitation, transport and basic n
infrastructure and jobs and avenues to earn income for livelyhood and
improve the standard of living of the people.
Your comment seemed to be comparing north-india and south-india
specifically tamilnadu. You attribute ancient invasions to the present
condition of north-india and you say since south did not have
invasions and they have resources they must be better than the north.
The British were invaders- they ruled whole of india- not just north.
and talking about administration- the north was ruled efectively by
the mughals who did not plunder- but settled and ruled india. I dont
see howprevious invaders can destroy natural resources of the north
like rivers, flora, fauna, minerals etc. Its always there whether there is
an invasion or not. And now its nearly 400 years or more after the
plundering invaders and enough time to do wonders after the
invasions. So your argument that the north is still affected
by the plundering invaders holds no water. Its just some fancy flawed
assumption.

A battle of Prestige
by AbduSamad on Apr 05, 2006 05:19 PM

The election suitation at Mankada assembly, Malappuram district is heating up. This election is a prestige contest for both LDF and UDF parties. Here main battle is among the well known face and the sitting MLA, M.ALi of LDF and present PWD minister Dr. M.K Muneer of IUML(UDF). Both of them have a clean image among the voters, nobody can complain anything against both the candidates. Sitting MLA M.Ali is well know among the voters of the constituency by his close relation with the peoples. And he had done a lot of things for the constituency even if he was on the opposite side. For IUML their clean image leader Muneer is the strength, he was one of the best minister of Kerala, but peoples from Mankada doesn't have a direct relation with him and he is from another district. The advantage with the sitting MLA M.Ali is, he is living in the middle of the constituency and peoples can meet him directly with their problems without any help of local party members or any type of recommendation. It was a UDF strong constituency and LDF won only twice from this place. And the general trend in the state in favor of LDF will bring more advantage for the LDF candidate here.

Completely agree with Anshu

I completely agree with Anshu, when u see the natural wealth the
state Tamil Nadu is quite self sustained, but the economic
improvement never happened, coz the Dravidian parties are equally
abnoxious in fighting any thing concerned with uprising of the
people, be it against the languages like Hindia or English, or to the
projects that can help the rural areas or supporting caste and
community based politics. I can only laugh at the promises given by
them
