Foreign issue
by C.A. Crasto on Apr 12, 2004 08:21 PM  | Hide replies

The "foreigner" issue is no issue at all with the people or the Supreme Court. It is only the BJP that is harping on this. Which voting daughter-in-law in India would want to feel out of her husband home on being an "outsider?" It is hitting out at half the population!

Foreign issue not an issue for the Indian
Sad to say that this is an issue for the BJP who belives in divide and rule policy. The Britishers left our land years back but the BJP is not left our land. It is the issue of Pakistani born Advani.

Venkaiah Naidu us a barking dog. He has no base in Andhra. So he came to Bangalore for Rajyasabha seat from Karnataka. Sofar he has done nothing for Karnataka. He behaves like a bafoon. He is a bafoon for BJP at National level and Sadananda gowda for Karnataka. He shifted from Magalore to Udupi in fear of loosing to Congress. In all debates Venkaiah keep quite when it comes in favour of Karnataka. Why? If he has some moral he has to support Karnataka. Why BJP national leaders treat him as a leader. He is not having capacity to win a parliament seat from Andhra. Before challenging Manmohan sigh the BJP people should think this Barking Dog

role of aliens turned indians
by pramod on Mar 27, 2004 09:28 PM

since supreme court has ruled that aliens turned indians can infact hold any office, the bjp should respect that...i dont understand why do they have to worry about sonia gandhi when she alone def. can't turn around the doomed congress party...a law against foreign-born holding posts would be completely against the values of socialism and democracy...hypothetically, what if mother teresa were alive and wished to run in the elections...such a law would be blasphemy of highest order...a law aimed at sonia would backfire in their faces in such a situation...i would like to hear francois gautier's views on this ;-)

Let People Decide but law is necessary!!!
by Arpit rai on Mar 25, 2004 01:15 PM

I think the people of country have full right to decide upon the foreign origin issue but at the same time, I think in a country where the illiteracy rate is this high, everything cant b left upon the people to decide.

According to me, there should be a law or a provision made in the constituion which bars the people of foriegn origin from not only becoming the PM but also from contesting elections at the national level.

The congress people give example of USA but they must know that in US also there is a law which prevents people of non-US origin to become the president.

In a country, where caste, religion and other irrelevant(to public) issues play more important role in politics, there is definitely a need to have laws or provisions made in constituion. Everything cant be left on the public to decide!!!
