by shipra on May 13, 2004 03:06 PM

well good that finally u got a chance to vote and that too on your name but its really bad to hear all these kind of incidents about the election. We got to know about this because u have put it on net but i am wondering as how many people do the same. And how many people have got the courage to fight for their rights.(for voting against the real name and identity).

Not a solution
by mehul on Apr 28, 2004 04:55 PM

it's not a solution as the bogus vote counted. A complaint must be registered to the election commision.

Shameful
by Phani on Apr 22, 2004 02:47 AM

First I would like to congratulate you madam on your courageuos(may be valorous too in case of our beaurocracy) act. It is shameful on the part of the governement to provide sufficient guidelines to the election officers. The case is so simple, common and definitely expected. We hear news that there are many international tribunals visiting our country to see out electoral process. If it is this lack of preparedness that they see, then what is the status of India shining? Shining is not getting hold of jobs thrown away by some other country. It should be in borne. It should be acheived.

Why not report the name of the official?
by Vinod on Apr 22, 2004 02:35 AM

Congratulations Madam. You did a wonderful job. But how many others are as lucky? Either to get support from the public or get the officer at the counter to let you vote? In any case from what I understand, since the vote is cast in secrecy, there is no way to cancel the false vote that was already caste. At the end of the day they will just put that vote in the name of someone else. So the person who cast the false vote has succeeded in his aim. I would have suggested that the name of the booth and the constituency also be printed along with this article which would then enable the EC to take action (if they would care). This is especially so because the officer is reported to have said that "Vote in the name of someone else if u want". The officer should never ever have told it, even if it means not allowing a genuine voter to vote.

I am not in India for this elections and I am not sure what happenned to my vote, but I am sure that such a thing happens. Probably if the EC goes around having repolling in stations for such incidents, we might have polling every other day. Guess it is time for ID Cards with smart Chips!!!

But itz not the solution
by suhas on Apr 22, 2004 02:30 AM

I was just goinn thru the article and i couldnt understand how the vote casted by the wrong person got erased just coz the polling officer erased the thing on the polling sheet instead of evm to which he got no access to do it. So the end result was there were two votes casted under the same name and both the votes were being counted for the final result. Thru evm u wont be able to figure out the vote casted by the wrong person once he is allowed to vote. So even to reduce the final count by one if incase the respective polling authorities had complianed to the people who administer the evm for the final count it wont help the situation. Well it seems to me that it didnt solve the purpose not to a bit.

What happens to the bogus vote
by N.D. on Apr 22, 2004 02:24 AM

"Just take a red pen, scratch out that fraud's signature, write cancelled beside it, let me sign there instead. Then I will go and vote," I said patiently as if I were talking to one of my tiny tots.

What does this mean?? U get to vote again.. thats fine but what happens to the vote which was casted by your name???? How does it get cancelled I would like to know.

What about the rigged vote
by raju on Apr 22, 2004 01:51 AM

The lady was able to vote that's fine but what about the vote that has been cast by somebody else. How does one make sure that it is made void. One cannot take away the basic fundamental right to vote and choose.
