absolutely absurd!!
by nathan on Apr 21, 2004 02:36 PM

sir,i was looking forward to voting the whole of last month.i went to the polling booth, stood in the hot sun without complaint, just looking forward and excited to voting!after all it only comes once in five yeears (hopefully!!)

when my turn came to some my voters id ,the guy looked at it and said "sorry, you cant vote.your name is not here!!"i was bewildered at being denied my fundamental right as a citizen of india!!

i was later told to go to some govt office or try some other booth.

my question is WHY ISSUE VOTERS ID'S WHEN ITS AS GOOD A USELESS PIECE OF PAPER??

i must tell you that i'm absolutely not looking forward to exercises my franchise in the next 5,10,15.....whatever years.i dont think people need to support this kind of unorganised functioning as i think the polls are a complete waste of time and equally if not more disapointing!!

As in the article it happens in most of the polling booths. It is neither the mistake of the officials nor ours. These kinds of incidents can very well be avoided with issuing of a social security number to everyone in India be it an Indian or a foreigner. With so much of IT developed, its high time Indian government went on to issue social security number which will solve every problem

Efficient Polling Staff?
by Ekanath Deshpande on Apr 21, 2004 12:41 PM

"Madam you have already voted" episode seems one of the real WONDERS of the WORLD.
The concerned officers should be taken to task by the Election Commissioner for conducting such absurd procedure. There is provision for such lapses. The genuine voter was unnecessarily harassed and misguided.
Hope the Election Commissioner takes cognizance of the case to avoid further complications.

Many Congratulations to Mrs. Narayanan
by ajit katkoria on Apr 21, 2004 12:40 PM

Excellent, very good job u have done Mrs. Narayanan. In India, v require people like u who has shown so much of guts for her own rights. U might have done wrong thing by voting in place of your son-in-law who is in foreign. Thank God that has stopped u doing that fraud. U shold complain to your Area Election Commissioner against that Booth Officer for giving such fraudalent suggestion. U have voted thr. machine and removed that wrong voters' name & sign from the register but what about that froud voter who also has voted thr. electonic machine. Whose vote is valid as machine has accepted both the votes.

Bravo madam and thanks for givning a lesson for us what to do if same thing happens with us. I learnt that the signature of fake voter can be cancelled. But what about that extra vote. Of course it does not matter because there will not 100% voting.

Thanks
