EVM
by Pramod T.S on May 10, 2004 01:14 AM

Leave alone the manufacturing part . . . I presume the whole concept design, prototype & user interface was conceived & developed at IDC Mumbai by Prof.A.G.Rao. Surprised to note that there is not even a single mention or credit about it.

If one presses wrong candiate and then wants to change then?
by rajashree on Apr 07, 2004 11:01 PM

This can happen by Old people only.Suppose an elder person by mistake presses wrong button and wants to change the vote EVM should provide such facility. Ballot paper cant do anything in such case but EVM can.
1) Once voter presses button LED should blink indicating cadidate you have chosen to vote.
2)Then if same button is pressed again vote will be registerd.

Hallo !
Its indeed nice to be with EVM all over India, though people at the grassroot level need to be brought to know its operation ;let the institutions of govt non govt & semi -govt provided one EVM for making the people to know up this machine.
Thanks !

Arvind's question
by Prof R D Akella on Apr 07, 2004 12:51 PM

After the mock poll in the morning, before commencing the actual poll, the Presiding Officer closes the compartment containing the 'clear' button and seals it, following an elaborate procedure of sealing. Only then does he start the actual poll. From this point onwards, nobody has access to the 'clear' button.
At the end of the poll, the Presiding Officer has access only to the 'close' button, that too only through a tiny window. He opens this window by pulling out a tiny plastic lid, presses 'close' and the EVM will not accept any more votes.

What is the expected life of an AVM? Does EVM require any kind of maintainance during it's life span?

What about user errors?
by Arvind on Apr 07, 2004 09:54 AM

What happens if the presiding officer accidently presses the clear button once all the votes are cast. Will the EVM lose all the vote data information?

What about other such user errors?

Optimistic Assumptions
by Rohit Sharma on Apr 07, 2004 03:51 AM

Is there any printed output which will tell that the voter has voted for so and so? If not, how will you guarantee that my vote was counted legitimately?

If there is a dispute, is there a paper trail to fall back on? It doesn't seem like it. So I am supposed to believe that some nameless company in the USA is very honest and writes bug free code. And considering the WMD reports which the same country generates, do you expect me to fall for this?

Is there any way to correct your vote if you have pressed some button by mistake?
