Lord's Test
by CS Narayanamurthy on Aug 13, 2018 05:15 PM  | Hide replies

Without media attention, India under Gavaskar/Bedi played excellently. Imagine bowlers like Bob Willis, Mike Hendrik, Ian Botham, Arnold, Chris Old all are masters of swing bowling. How beautifully Gavaskar use to open and Viswanath later. Also, Dilip Vengsarkar has scored two hundreds in Lords Test so as Viswanath. Mohinder Amarnath was the finest batsman in those days against world class fast bowling. But now, we have more paper tigers even during Tendulkar era, only VVS Lakshman and Rahul Dravid were consistent and including Tendulkar did not win matches in England/West Indies where genuine fast bowlers bowl extremely well. Starting from Tendulkar era to Kohli era they have more money but zero commitment. It is clear Indian cricket players good against mediocre bowling but they fail miserably against world class fast or swing bowling.
They must learn from Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Viswanath and Rahul Dravid. Others are not up to the mark.

Correction. Vengsarkar has scored 3 hundreds at Lords & is the only batsman to do so.

Yes, you've rightly re-counted the greats of the past who fared much better than these over-hyped batsmen of today.

Also add the fact that Rahul Dravid and Ganguly made their debut for India in the same England tour and made centuries. Even Ashwin had scored his test century on an England tour.

So why can't these over-hyped star batsmen apply themselves and put up a fight? What is the coach doing ?

I FULLY AGREE WITH YOU. BCCI IS THE RICHEST BOARD , KOHLIS ARE AMONG THE HIGHEST EARNER , RAVI SHASTRI IS THE HIGHEST PAID COACH IN THE WORLD. WHAT FOR THEY ARE PAYING SO HIGH , HAS TO FOR THEIR TALENT & EXPERIENCE. IT IS REALLY SHAMEFUL THAT NEITHER RAVI NOR VIRAT ABLE TO READ THE PITCH & CONDITIONS OF LORDS . TIME HAS COME TO LINK REMUNERATION WITH PERFORMANCE FOR PLAYERS INCLUDING COACH. IF REQIURE RAVI CAN BE SACKED & 3 CAPTAINS FOR 3 FORMATS WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECTS

90s Era - Batting Collapses
by aman malhotra on Aug 13, 2018 04:27 PM

Seeing Indian team bat in the Lords test reminded me of the 90s era under Azharuddin's captaincy. Sachin used to carry the team's burden and opposition's only goal used to be to get Sachin out and the rest will follow. As a result, opposition bowlers always used to be charged and on their heels.

Hope our performance was one-off and we make a comeback. Else, it could be a long brutal series for the Indians!

ILP spoiled the entire test game. They are making enough money. Why you guys cry. Let them loose all the matches. You and I are crying for loose. They are enjoying the tour in England. Guys wake up think your own life and earning rather wasting the time. They are all made enough money. Be like them to earn money guys. Don't break your heads for the lose. They will loose entire series 0-5. I bet you guys.

Batting order
by raj on Aug 13, 2018 03:37 PM  | Hide replies

Might look little bizarre but here is what I think might work
1. Vijay 2. Pujara 3. Hardik (Yes he looed more accomplished in defense than other batsmen) 4. Kohli 5. Rahul (He plays beside the line of ball so he is better at 5 than 2 or 3) 6. Rahane 7.Rishab Pant (try as Dinesh is too bad as Keeper also) 8.Ashwin 9. Shami 10. Ishant 11 . Bumra / Umesh (if Bumra is not Fit)

I guess Hardik (if he gets a chance to play though my personal opinion is that he shouldnt) should bat at no.7 only before Ashwin. One down should be Pujara and he should be told that you dont only have to defend but score some runs also. KL Rahul should definitely come lower. Maybe after Kohli and before Rahane. DK should be kicked out ASAP. You can try Rishabh Pant as keeper or try KL Rahul for keeper. That way, you get to play an extra batter and you can get in Karun Nair after Rahane.

All said and done, openers needs to give a partnership of 100 runs. That is most important. They should be given extra batting practice before the start of the next match. You will see most of these issues subsiding if your openers perform!!

Looking at current form we should have - 1. Pujara 2. Ashwin 3. Kohli 4. Hardik 5,6,7 - Ishant, Shami, Umesh 8,9.10. Pick any three from the rest, anyway they will make no runs.

Who should be blamed
by raj on Aug 13, 2018 03:31 PM  | Hide replies

First test when Pujara and Kuldeep were not selected all greats were slamming Kohli. Now after selection if they didn't perform finding new ways to blame the same again. First let us not make it musical chair competition where player gets changed every game. New conditions. Give them some time.

Kohli-Shastri Combo Should be Changed in Test Matches!
by aman malhotra on Aug 13, 2018 03:08 PM  | Hide replies

Make Ashwin test captain. Kohli is too excited on taking a wicket rather than looking at ways to win the match.

Get experts like Dravid and Zaheer for specialist jobs of batting coach and bowling coach. Actually, make Dravid the coach of the Indian Cricket Test Team. Let Shastri and Kohli manage ODI and T20s

Well they got Kumble, who did a wonderful job of improving our bowlers. But then mr.kohli didn't like him and kicked him out.
Only people like shastri will apply for that post now, not people with self-respect like dravid.

Yes, our batsmen look like pigeons on hot tin roof!...While conditions were averse everytime we batted, still this defeat would have made a mental scar. They need a lot of inner strength to bounce back.

BCCI should act immediately and send Rahul Dravid as batting coach for remaining 3 tests.
