I think Dhoni can bat at No. 6 for the team to have better balance after Manish Pandey or Gurkeeth both are good batsmen. They are doing well in IPL and other one dayers etc., Dhoni cannot be for longer time and he has to find substitutes for him in due course
We all know how the Indian team is going to perform in Aus. Why not giving chances to some cricketers like the Mumbailad who scored a unbeaten 1000 run in school cricket?
You can always come up the order when the going is easier. If not, coming down always helps with getting a higher average, swinging the bat and scoring the winning runs which is more important.
Dhoni could have been sacked and Dinesh could have been in the team who is a better batsmen/keeper.he played opening to lower order and also a better fielder in deep/outfield. Because of dee gaaang's support only dhobi fixed his team of northhhy's for beatting. Kohhli follows the same path. Baba aparajith will do an allrounder'sosition.
