A test match was always played with five bowlers in earlier days of Team India.After the limited overs version the scene changed with three plus one bowlers and one allrounder.The emphasis shifted to the batsmen leaving the team balance in geopardy.Let us play a good Test match at sydney.You cant win a test match unless you take twenty wickets.All the best.

Yes, india doesn't have an all-rounder but you can't just keep cribbing about it than rather make best use of available resources. Dhoni all along played very safe not wanting to take chance in playing 3 pacers and 2 spinners combo of five bowlers and paid the price ultimately. With series already lost 0-2 and one Test drawn the new captain will have to take risk of not cushioning that extra batsman and play 2-spinners and 3-pacers combo of 5 bowlers to strengthen the bowling to have the chance of taking 20 wickets. Even otherwise KL Rahul looks a bundle of nervous and not worth risking.Further between Dhawn and Pujara one has to stand out and make way for Raina.I think Pujara looks hopelessly out of touch and should be dropped. Now coming back to bowling attack, before start of the tour the quartet of Ishant,Umesh,Varun Aron and Md Sham bei were considered to be the first Indian 140 plus club touring Aus and a lot was expected of them. However they were very big disappointment not bowling to a game plan. So the new captain has to focus on this one aspect and make the bowlers bowl in right areas with proper game plan. Ishant Sharma apart from being very inconsistent also makes everybody sweat every time he take a wicket with having likely committed ‘’foot fault’ 9 out of 10 times . Is it a professional approach for the senior most bowler ?
Kumar, Axar and Raina to be included in place of shami, dhawan and aswin. Raina and kumar are alrounder and Raina a batting alrounder. Rahane or Rahul can open the innings along with Vijay if we drop dhawan. I think this will be a balanced team
a genuine one, since Kapil Paaji's days.. Sydney pitch could be a double edged sword.. It normally assists spinners by the 3rd day, however, it readily brings in the pacers, if it gets damp or overcast.
As it stands, India could do nothing but go in with 2 plus 2 combo, with Suresh Raina, turning his arm over.. It definitely cannot make place for a 3rd seamer at the expense of an extra batsman.. The reason being the poor form of Shikhar and Pujara..

B Kumar is the all rounder, Ashwin and Axar are too.. they need to play as batsmen than take a bowling place.

Chappel comment is not geniue.Dont bring more spinners.it will allow austlia to win.india had done good job with blowing and bat but had no luck to win.But the game will change because dhoni gone.am looking forward.Doesnt spin do much australian pitch

I agree that it is difficult to go in with 5 bowlers currently. However, I would be apprehensive with going in for 2 2 mainly because in last 2-3 years, our spinners have hardly been threatening overseas. 3 1 is still a good option, even in Sydney, with Raina turning his arm over for the second spin option...
Agree with what you are telling from Day-1, playing spinners is better than playing inconsistent "pacers", specially on tracks like Adelaide and Sydney..

I think only Melbourne didn't assist spinners much because a better spinner like Lyon was struggling.Still, for India,considering the quality of pace bowlers,a spinners would have performed much better.

Lyon better spinner??? Perhaps, may be and by all means, coz Lyon tries to impart a side spin and give a genuine rip to the seam, whereas Ashwin tries to undercut the ball.
Ashwin is more versatile but is more of a one-day kinda bowler..Your stock delivery, after all, gotta be your vicious off-spinner..

Yes,that's why I said Lyon is a better spinner in the context of text matches. Ashwin is more of a restrictive or checking the run flow and is more suited to ODIs.
without realizing the quality of Indian fast bowlers. It will be in the best interest of India to play two pacers and two spinners. This is a big mistake India did in the first three tests. Raina should come in place of Rahul and he will be a decent addition to the bowling resources as well since he bowls regularly in IPL. Probably,Chappell realizes that batting is a strong point for India and is trying to weaken it by suggesting only five regular batsmen.
