Right time ?
by Sudarshan Nityananda on Jan 02, 2015 03:03 PM

After the huge losses in the recent Test series in England was the right time for Dhoni to retire.
It was time to give Kohli his try at captaincy and time to give Saha or Ojha their place behind the stumps.

Its OK..!!

Regardless of everything happened, he is the best captain and best wicket keeper of India. Knowing hime mentally strong and heard about him all these years, we have to accept his decision..

It always happen that there are 2 versions of any case. Here what transpired in last few days is not known to anyone, but everybody speculates for their own convenience.

Ideally, what Prasanna said is right. But do not see anything wrong in what he did, when he felt can't do it further. We do not plan everything in life.

Y'day I was watching a debate on TV at 9 PM.. the person who started and heading, came with pre-determined intentions and worse was that he didn't even have knowledge of difference between Limited Overs Game and Test Matches.. and was vociferous thru-out the show and went berserk criticizing Dhoni flaunting as per his ready made script.. Why Iam mentioning this is we see everyone commenting though they do not understand the game.

Its a game involving both Body and Mind, u can plan for former but not so for latter..

Let's take it as best time for his retirement, as Kohli will also get exposed to leading in Tests, and there will be some time before India start playing test-matches again..

Reason
by prasad sun on Dec 31, 2014 10:09 AM  | Hide replies

The reason why Dhoni was targeted is becoz he was playing for CSK in IPL, had he been playing for other franchisee nobody
would have told anything. Its just that ppl do not like CSK wining. Its clear that people do not like chennai. I still
wonder even though Chennai is a part of India why ppl are against it.

hehehehe, wat a great imagination.See his last 3 yr test matches scores and see india win-loose ratio man.U might be from chennai and im sure alwyas think that whole world against u always :) we r different etc...forget man...its just cricket reason...even in this series last test also he failed when extreme need was there to stay there..did anyone asked to step down from ODI? ..so keep ur imaginating power to urself..Wat he did with seniors all world knows...he got same medicien from Virat..thats it...why doni refused to play under Virat then? Prev grt like Sachin,Rahul played under him without ego.

@Prasad, PLAYERS come and go, cricket does not stop.If so ,then why dhoni did not continued as WK in team under Virat captianship. so that ur idea of WK who can bat fulfilled. But ego of dhoni not allowing this. BCCI surprised that he quit from test. Its ego of dhoni only,no one told him to quit test. All want is he should quit captainship as 3 yr long time india loosing so they want some fresh idea from fresh captain.

His service to India is not appreciated much. He has taken us to the mountain top in all forms of cricket but no one gave him due respect. Captaincy weighed heavily on him.
India's will crop of bowlers especially in overseas condition will hinder our success. I do not see any end in sight.

The bowlers are good, but the field setting is poor. The strategies og Duncan Fletcher and Mahendra Singh Dhoni were also poor.

he is not performing in TEST and not want to play under Virat
by alex on Dec 30, 2014 11:02 PM  | Hide replies

he is not performing in TEST from quite long period and not want to play under Virat , so only way left is quit. Now if he waitfor last match and if india loose that then timing might gone wrong...so he took decision today itself....Practically correct decision..He forgotten great like Sachin,Rahul,Laxman played under him..so he should have played under Virat without ego issue and watever result he should have accept...anyway fact is he was one of best captain

Retirement
by Sheetal Kaur on Dec 30, 2014 10:52 PM  | Hide replies

Playing a game at international level is a full time job like any other job and a job well done by the players.
First it was Tundelkar ever=y one wanted him to retire, all because India was not winning all the matches it was playing , Second and the big problem with Indian Public, Oh they are over paid and not winning
Now every one is after DHONI, and all for the same reason.
If Dhoni retires and say Kohli take over the captaincy, Whole scenario will repeat again in three to Four years, same story that under KOHLI India is not winning every single match that India is playing,
Trouble with Indians is that every citizen of India all 1.5 billon of them are born with a Encyclopaedia in there hands and no one knows better then myself. Every one has Knowledge and is expert in Every field under the sun.
Cricket is a game of Luck a battle fought with Bat and Ball, sooner every one accept that one has to win and one to loose they will enjoy the game better.
No one can win all and every game. Not even India. Weather Played Away or at Home.

Dhoni should have retired after Test series: Prasanna
by wcpak on Dec 30, 2014 10:52 PM  | Hide replies

Australia have already won the series. If Dhoni had made up his mind that this will be his last test series,it is all the more sensible not to play the last test and leave it to the captain-in-waiting Kohli and to the next wicket keeper. It will be a good experience to Kohli and also to the new wicket keeper. I feel it was the correct decision.

I strongly suspect dressing room atmosphere turned against him, with Shastri, calling the shots and Virat going ballistic..

Dhoni's retirement in the middle of the series is quite understandable. He wants to go out on a high. Remember he has scored 11 & 24 Not Out in his last test match. If he has played one more match, he might have feared he would have got a golden duck. Hence his decision. :-)

The correction to Prasanna's statement is that Dhoni should have retired after the two 4-0 white-ashes in England and Australia.
