Positive attitude
by SHANE on Dec 15, 2014 09:01 PM  | Hide replies

by bogging down at 99 shown by Vijay was positive attitude? He played well until reach to 90's and I saw two overs of Lyon he played on 99, he was so negative in his approach to reach century. Virat himself played very positively but he made mistake by giving strike to Vijay against Lyon. He cloud played out that over and allow Vijay to finish century in next over of Johnson against whom he is very comfortable. But that particular mistake of Virat and Vijay open up for Australia and rest is the history. Virat should have played out that over of Lyon knowing that Vijay is on 99 and not comfortable facing Lyon on 99.

I totally agree with you...but Vijay played few shots of Lyon comfortably. Kohli would have pacified Saha, who was hitting everyball.

Blame it on the sporting culture, rather the lack of it, that the team is content as long as it is able to avoid defeat. That probably explains its poor record in the gameâs classical form.

A WELCOME DEPARTURE IN ATTITUDE &APPROACH
by damodaran mohan on Dec 15, 2014 06:30 PM

Completely agree with the column that Virat Kohli's positive approach to win the match is the right approach. In sports you win some lose some but what is important is how you play. At adelaide for once Virat koli's approach was a welcome departure from the usual past Indian captain’s defensive approach and attitude ,something to be applauded. Virat is right that if he had attempted to force a draw India would have lost a pathetic looking loss by higher margin. It was also a good learning for some of our batsmen like Pujara,Rahane,Rohit etc to apply themselves better on a turning wicket On a turning wicket even umpiring decisions turn instinctive and a matter of chance .Either DRS should be introduced or for bat/gloves-pad decisions it should be made mandatory for the field umpire to consult the 3rd umpire before giving the decisions. The umpires can’t be blamed as it is next to impossible to give right decisions under such conditions.

A Lesson to Learn

Well the defeat at Australia is not the first one nor the last. However I have full trust on Kohili and know that he would bounce back soon.

Kohli tried to act over smart by relying on a rookie leg spinner based on his success in IPL. Bowling in test match is entirely different and Kohli is not capable of guiding bowlers. If he had selected Ashwin in place of Shami,I am sure Indis could have controlled the first test in Adelaide which helps spinners.

Sorry
by Harshad Tirodkar on Dec 15, 2014 04:31 PM

Sorry to read most of the responses. It goes to show that we are bad loosers. This public reaction forces successive captains to go for draw. What is important is to wil a match and draw one. Games should be played for winning and not for drawing. Ideally there can be only two possibilities. Win or Loss. Even Hockey and Football ensure results at knockout stages. Then why are we critical about cricket losses? What is more important is the way you play cricket. As far as general skeptisism is concerned, we must accept that nowadays our teams are doing far better than what they used to do 5 years back.

ADELAIDE TEST
by BADAL MAJUMDAR on Dec 15, 2014 04:17 PM

Defeat cannot be a victory. After 4th wicket down
India should go defensive but some people are
applauding it is a great victory. No one can be a
tragic hero. Lost in Adelaide is proved the poor
captancy of Virat.
