Shastri does not have an outstanding record in ODIs
by biswanath roy on Aug 20, 2014 12:51 PM  | Hide replies

Shastri does not have an extra ordinary record in ODIs, hardly 3100 runs and 125 wickets in 150 matches with strike rates of 61 & 51 respectively in batting & bowling. With such poor S/R how can he guide our players who have batting S/R of over 90. With Raina, Umesh Yadav, Utthappa joining the team our ODI team is stronger and we will surely put up a good show, and could win the series. But the credit should be entirely of the players & not Shastri.

Doesn't matter. His record is based on the circumastances in his career. In those days, 70 was an outstanding SR. So 61 was ok. He also carried the burden as an opener although he was a middle order all rounder. As long as he's able to motivate the team, it's fine.

We will ODI and T20
by Ganesh V on Aug 20, 2014 12:18 PM

Our ODI and T20 team is far better then test team. Here our players don't need to defend the ball and give catch to slip fielders. Moreover, with Raina, Sanju, Umesh Yadav inclusion, the team look stronger.

Shastri got opportunity at right time and eventually he will be the coach since we are going to win ODI series. Again, this will not be because of Shastri but because of good team.

Good Move, but still some more changes required in team
by nagaraj naik on Aug 20, 2014 10:54 AM

Shikar dhawan, Rohit sharma, Ravindra Jadeja & Ashwin are not Test players and should not be considered for test team, all are ODI/T20 players.

Replace them with K L Rahul, Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwari & Amit Mishra.

At the most, it'll help Ravi earn few more bucks...

I do not know why? from the day he was selected coach, poor Fletcher had to face only brickbats all along. When the team did well, he was conveniently ignored while others took the credit. Does anyone here honestly think, any coach leave alone Duncan, can control the likes of Virats, Jaddus, Ashwins and Dhonis? Coach, for his own survival needs to turn a blind eye and spare these legends to do whatever they like, the way they like. It's the players who need to be dealt strongly with after all, they are the ones who perform and are responsible for the team's showing.

Now that they found scapegoat, the likes of Virats and Pujaras will heave a sigh of relief and the BCCI would happily feel, it took a corrective action and the problem was addressed.

I really do not understand, how certain people (dummy legends) are persisted with despite repeated failures while some others like Badri are judged by mere 3 innings and axed despite scoring a 50 in one of them? I bet, Unmukt Chand with an average of 36 (against, HP, J&K, Services) will get his break earlier than Baba Aparajit with a healthy first class average of 52 (against much better opposition). That's how, cricket is running here. Mera Bharat Mahaan!

As long as, these spoilt brats are in the team, none can bring about any change. It's time to show them that (by dropping Virat, Jaddu, Shikar), none is indispensable.

very true. Jadeja is specailist spinner in playing 11 is joke with indian cricket history. Aswin is also not behind him. did ever Aswin was a effective bowler away from India, then why Dhoni just for his friendship carrying this baggage ? India which have rich hostory of great spinners and this Aswin guy is nowhere from OK also in TEST.(Agreed he is best T-20 bowler.)

Ravi Shastri director

What is Ravi going to do? Is he going to bat? Is he going to teach Dhoni strategy? Is he going to teach Duncan Fletcher how to coach? What isbRavingoing to do and what is going to be his role. He has never managed any team of repute in the last 15 years. I think this is just a way to get some more money out of the coffers and pay Ravi. Next I won't be surprised if Sunil Gavaskar s brought in thru the back door. Does BCCI have none else than Ravi and Sunil . They are paid 15 crore each year just to be on the panel of BCVI? Commentating fee is separate. Now more payment thru this directorship. Simply bizarre !!!
