I think the decision of conferring the Bharat Ratna was in a haste by the Govt. There are so many deserving people... that should have taken into consideration...

If we started Bharat ratna to players of a sports which is played by 10-12 countries of the world what about the Silver, gold and brownz medal holders in Olympics. This is political and about 60 oercentage of the people will not accept this. Bharat ratna became small now

It is not like winning a Gold in Olympics. Here is a great player who has straddled the game for 24 years performing on an astounding scale. Not only is he a peerless sports person but by his conduct both on and off the field proved a role model.
While it is heartening to see the very timely reaction - on the day Mr. Sachin retires from the Cricket - of the PMO to announce its decision to confer Bharata Ratna the highest civilian honour of India on Sachin, it pains me to see the apathy of the same PMO when Dr. Kurien the Father of white revolution breathed his last, last year. My attempt is not to compare Dr. Kurien with Mr. Sachin. It is to compare the efforts of an individual impacting the lives of many marginal dairy farmers as well as the average consumer in India, with the impact created by a Cricketer like Mr. Sachin in the light of the meaning attributed to this Highest Civilian Honour in India. Today in India the price is Milk is still very reasonable when compared to Coco Cola, Onion and other Fruits and Vegetables. This fact is alive with the experience of every Indian. The reason for this stable price of price is the Cooperative Dairying in India that was nurtured by an apex body like the National Dairy Development Board whose founder Chairman was Dr. Kurien and who served the same for over 3 decades. It is high time that an office like PMO shall be rational enough in announcing this award by taking into account the Individuals who had rendered selfless service in building this Nation. Sports personalities, play back singers and film personalities shall be given different awards in recognition of their talent (not the service or the contribution). As an India I express my utter displeasure in the manner t

I agree with you that not giving the Bharata Ratna award to Dr.Kurien was a serious omission. However I am not able to agree with your comment about the award being given to sports person. There are awards for sports persons. But Sachin is certainly not just an outstanding cricketer but a role model

I totally agree with you. Field Marshal Manekshaw was not given rightful respect on the day of his death. Even the Def Minister had not attended the ceremony. The man who brought victory to this country in the 1972 war died even without any single condolence from the High Power. Where was the PMO at that time.

There could be.We should be proud that there are that many outstanding persons in the country. But to bring it up now in a manner that denigrates the achievement of Sachin does not appear to be right.

I am against awarding Bharata Ratna pothumously as was done in the case of late MGR, the TN CM. Why only Dhyanchand? Why not Milkha Singh? Why not political stalwarts like MK Gandhi, sardar Patel,Rajendra Prasad,Tilak,Subhash Bose,Bhagath Singh, etc? The list can be endless. There should be a limit like one or two years after a person's death, after which posthumpus awards should not be given.
