Dhoni might have won us the series. But I still stand by my opinion that he doesnt fit in the test squad, esp for abroad tests. He played 1 great inn in the placid chennai track, but we all saw how he was dancing around in the mohali and delhi pitches. He wouldnt score more than 20 in any of the test innings in SA, AUS, ENG for sure. He should retire from Test cricket and concentrate on defending the 2015 WC and T20s, for he is an indespensable asset to the team in the shorter formats. I am sure to get brickbats here, but to the unbiased and long-term-thinker, it would make sense.

Dhoni as a batsman Test Avg over all 39.0, Test avg overseas 28.0, No overseas century or match winning inning in test carrer even after playing 77 test. T-20 intnl avg- 25, Strike rate- 111, No fifty or match winning inning in entirer career even after playing 42 matches ODI- Good avg manipulated due to no. of not out innings & manipulative batting position. Even in ODI most runs scored on flat indian wicket against team like Pak/SLK & no overseas century. As a wicketkeeper- Dropped catches in almost every match.
Dhoni test average outside In WI 2006, 24 In SA 2006, 26 In AUS 2007, 17.62 In SA 2011, 35.8 ( one inning of 90 when styen/morkel was kept out of attack for 2-3 hrs) In WI 2011- 19.5 ( score of 0,16,2, 5 & 74(only one good inning when WI was operating with bowlers like bishoo/chandrapaul & front line bowler rampaul/shammi etc was resting due to injury). In Eng 2011- 30.0 In Aus 2012- 20.0 As a captain good record only on indian pitches. Overseas he has lost more test matches(09) than what he won(05) Win includes SLK, Bng, WI & NZL.

What talent you ar talking about.. Where was this talent when we were white washed by all low Aussies and Brits last year. In our back yard, we played well. It is not a great accomplishment. Let him show his talent doing the same, abroad.

What u said is absolutely correct. As a batsman Dhoni does not deserve a place in the Test squad. He is best in 50 over format where he led India to world cup win. He will dance again in South Africa when India visits there after couple of months. Just imagine what will happen to him when world class fast bowlers like Del Steyn and Morkel will fire ta him with avg speed of 145 K.m./hr on pitches of Durban and Bloemfontein .. Ha..Ha..He will show white flag.

That was a class apart. But those innings from him and few and far between. I just dont see him doing any great in the upcoming SA series. Dhoni facing bouncers from Steyn and Morkel at Durban, Port Elizabeth, Blomfontein....OMG ..gone case..

Om Shanti, we all admire Dhoni for his entertaining batting. Test Batting is with lots of adjustments required for every pitch and bowling tactics. Dhoni has never had Batting technique suiting to Test. Just because he is captain, he cant command a place in 11. So better they drop him from Test 11 and find a new captain. My gut feeling by seeing this Aus series, why not look to groom Pujara. May be there are other better. But whoever plays Test 11, atleast shld be Test skill possessed, unlike Dhonis, Sehwags, Rainas. None of the above has test class.

I get a feeling, Wridhiman Saha might be the best wicket-keeper. Saw him bat in the one of the tests in Aus (Adelaide I suppose)..was decent enough.
Om Shanti - As Mr Murali said, tomorrow Raina might score a double century in a one-off incident. That doesn't mean he is fit to play test cricket. People like Wasim Jaffer, Badrinath, even Anjika Rahane are more inclined that Dhoni, Raina, Yuvraj.

All Mclumn, prior, Deviler, Sanga has better test average & played many good inning even abroad. Bus yahi chahiye. Even in ODI dhoni overseas avg is just 39. In T-20 he never played a match winning inning even after 42 matches.

Ashwin's test average is more than Dhoni ...so would you say he is better Test batsman than Dhoni ? Sachin's average is still 54..does that mean he can play all along for his lifetime ?

Even Sachin was the third highest run getter in the Abroad Aussie series ..then why call for his retirement ?
Hope Dhoni stays as Captain of Team India atleast till 2015 World Cup as he is the best Captain by far that India has produced. Even Ganguly comes next best after him. The Core of the Team is formed now with Young players and they shud serve the Team atleast for the next 10 Yrs. Lastly, Sachin Please RETIRE now and let Virat take your Number 4 position in Test.

It doesn't have to be that way if the team trains and prepares for the playing conditions in SA!
In the last to white washes, it is obvious that the players did not prepare for playing conditions in England and Australia and Senior players like Sachin were too selfish to "guide" or "mentor" younger players (like many foolish Sachin fans think he actually does in the team)!
