But Gavaskar played test cricket when they were no protective gear against one of the most fearsome fast bowlers in the history of cricket and on uncovered pitches with no restriction on the bouncers.
I am totally agree...I have seen his almost all the century. 35 century and that too....against Lilli, thomson, Garner, holding Roberts, Marshall. Bob willis, Imran , Sarfraz etc.. all furious bowlers..and without helmet .Love you little master.

IT S ONLY IN TEST CRICKET!!! SEE BATSMAN LIKE 10DULKAER, TROT, HAYDEN. THEY MADE LOTS OF RUN IN EACH FORMAT EVEN SEE GAVASKAR HAD NOT DONE IN ONEDAY CRICKET...
No doubt Gavaskar was great for himself like Sachin Tendulkar. But he never did anything good for Mumbai cricket to come up. Its only Vengsarkar who is doing something. Even the plot of land which Govt had given to Gavaskar was taken back because he didnt do anything on that. Even after retirement gavaskar only saw How he can make money and he taught the same to Shastri. It was because of gavaskar, what Shastri is today. Right from entry into cricket to how to make money after retirement Gavaskr taught everything to Shastri. So Shastri is indebted to gavaskar. No doubt he would praise gavaskaR.
I thought this article was about Gavaskar, not about Ravi Shastri. But after reading the entire stuff I am not so sure!!. Rediff definitely have one of the poorest editors, if they have anyone at all

I did not know that name. Sorry. The only Anwar I know is my friends son who still has not grown to hold a bat.
i totally agree with Ravi Shastri, i have seen most of gavaskar's innings in late 70's and 80's he was little slow in batting than sachin but still i loved to watch his whole innings.
