India Playing 11 should be..
by Spot On on Sep 24, 2012 11:18 AM  | Hide replies

1. Viru
2. Gambhir
3. Kohli
4. Yuvraj
5. Raina
6. Dhoni
7. Irfan
8. Ashwin
9. Harbhajan
10. Zaheer
11. Balaji/ Manoj Tiwary

Rohit Sharma is a flop player who got thousands of chances before scoring 55* in yesterday's game; any player will score a fifty once in a while; there is no point retaining him for once-in-a-blue-moon innings.

if it was odi match it is understandable...but it is t20 and rohit has good t20 record and has 5 50s in 23 odd innings in international odis...dont confuse his odi failures with t20 format...

Harbhajan helps India thrash England

Let us see how long this performance lasts. Who knows that this may be one day glory only. Once a team is demoralized, even ordinary bowlers reach the sky in their performance. We pray for consistency in the performance of Harbhajan.

Super EIGHT

I dont understand why ICC didnt have the points carried forward from the group stages to the super eight. In case of that india would have been in much better position .They would actually now get no value out of their win yesterday and if anything england are in easier group than india in super eight.
On what basis is the super eight groupings decided.India are in top position of the group as per points , and by some unknown factors england are ranked A1 and india A2 for super eight seedings.Ridiculous i think . How is south africa , the second ranked side in world t20 and perhaps the best team so far in pacy and bouncy conditions of hambantota , be the second placed team of the group behind srilanka.Do srilanka find themselves in advantage postion because of hosting the event?? Australia being ranked 10th in the world in t20 is finding a way beyond west indies in the ranking in their group , which should be the case for all the groups ; just concentrate on the performance in the competition and nothing else. South africa should have been top of the group and so should have been india.New zealand are the second in the group and thats fine depending on pakistan beating bangladesh .
I dont agree with this seedings and based on these factors i dont agree with the super eight groupings and india , make no mistake about it, have been on the rough side of this.india should have been grouped with west indies, south africa and new zealand, which would have been much easier

1. They cannot change the plan because it would be "easy" for India or any other team.
2. This is a good format. Let any good team win and not rely on past glory (points carry over). It makes the tournament more interesting.
3. Now, India will have to face WI, Bang (or NZ) and SA. So, chances for going to the semis are higher since SA is the only "terror" team (if no surprises, WI & Bang will be easier to beat).
I expect Ind v Pak in the semis.

@ JIJU who told you India has to face WI OR NZ, India is in group 2 and have to play pak aus and SA to get into semis, and Group 1 consists of Eng WI SL maybe NZ ( teams are grouped as per ICC Rankings/Dictatorship

Yes there is some mysterious story behind this grouping .ur right .. may be some dictatorship...ur observations of rankings dont work because if england is number one in the ICC ranking and got first position ahead of india , then why did south africa not get the first position ahead of srilanka as SA are second position team in ICC ranking and west indies not get the first position ahead of australia(who are number 10)...no logic is working from my imagination...ICC only knows whats the basis of these seedings!! Crazy thing now is that all thr group toppers are playing in one group and group runners are playing in easier group in SUPER Eight...england would be biggest beneficiary out of this ICC seeding and perhaps India the biggest loser!!

@Mahesh & Priyanka: oops, you are right. Sorry for that.
I was under the opinion that the top performer of a group will qualify as A1/B1 etc (as per the schedule seen around 10 days back).... I was not aware of this new setup until I saw now. All my calculations are screwedup now :(

No boss..ur wrong ..thats why i said that the seedings in super eight stages make no sense for me ..its pretty ridiculous that india , australia, south africa and pakistan are in the same group in super eight.so it basically means that all the group toppers from the league phase play in the same group in super eight and the group runners play in the other easier group.I dont know what is the seeding system put forward by ICC during planning and schduling of the tournament. How come India and england know before playing each that they would have been ranked first and second in the group and going to pallekele and colombo respectively. Its incomprehensible .Have srilanka got advantage of being hosts..!!thats why the rubber yesterday was called a dead rubber..and also i believe the points forward startegy would not make any rubber dead and playing well in group stages would mean a lot for every team ..remember in world cup 1999 , pakistan went to the semi finals virtue of their excellent performance in group stages in spite of losing two games in the super eight. It can easily happen that team may lose some ground during certain stage of tournament..but if they have played a large phase better than others ,. they need to be rewarded...simply because super eight in also sort of round robin ...its not a pure knock out like from second round of FIFA World cup .

Good job by Team India
by shyamprasad on Sep 24, 2012 10:01 AM

Congarts. to Indian team and to Dhoni. It was Dhoni's bold decision to drop Shewag and Zhaeer that really surprising and very bold decision. Only he could take such bold decisions as to drop two established players to bring changes in the team. They combined well and brought India a good win. Keep it up and the Spirit to win the T-20 WC. Media and critics , kindly don't critise the team for pretty reasons. When India defeted Afghanistan with a small margin there were no dearth of negative comments. Be bold to apprecite India even if it is small margin aand against any country. It has to be admitted that if a coutry has qualified to play some tournment the teqam must have gone through all tough matches then gets qualified. I can confidently say this Afghanistan was far better than when Bangladesh when they started playing their international matches.

First things first as was mentioned by every expert yesterday that The way english batsmen played spin was horrendous to say the least..ganguly said its unbelieveable shocking and he never saw spin being played like that. These englishmen just dont learn to play spin bowling and they have a degree of aura about it. They juast dont know how to pick spinners and play them on their merit. They had batsmen like graham gooch and kevin pieterson who played spin well and nowadays bell play it pretty well too and their youngsters just dont learn from them.Pathetic play from england.India would do well to realize that south africa and australia or even perhaps new zealand will handle the spinners much better . In super eight and in semis and finals india cant win with the ease that they did yesterday.watching england play yesterday my dad commented that england seem a very very ordinary side ; he doesnt know that england are ranked number 1. Shame on england and their captain who says they play spin excellently at the nets.Arrogance and rubbish aura.
Secondly , i dont think yesterdays pitch would be a benchmark of whats going to happen in the world cup from now on . The pitches are different even in colombo depending on which one they play.
Thirdly , i dont understand and support the seedings system and depending on which the super eight groups depend. It should have been points carried forward and also the super eight groupings should have been solely determined by group standings

Yes, but it is the problem of the English if they dont know how to play spin :)

Secondly, Team India were rank#1 in 2011. Dint they ruin it in the overseas tours? Your dad is right, "yesterday's" England was a very ordinary side.
