Don't write off Team India
by Jomesh George on Sep 23, 2012 03:12 PM

In a premier tournament like a World Cup a team played tough matches or come back from a do or die situation is having more chances to become the ultimate winners.See the example of Pakistan who won 1992 WC and 2009 T20 WC through tough situations only.Remember India became world champions in 1983 from an almost knocked out position from the heroics of Kapil Dev against Zimbabwe. Also in T20 WC 2007 we had to face knockout games against Pak in group stages,Eng and SA against super Eights but became eventual winners.Unusual or unbelievable things can happen on such crunch matches.Kapil's 175 vs Zim,Inzamman 60 vs NZ,Yuvraj's 6 sixes,Umar Gul's 5 wickets vs NZ,Shahid Afridi's allround effort to eliminate SA in 2009 all are examples of the spirits shown in a difficult position. So don't write off India for not getting a huge victory against AFG it is important to play well against better teams.

very negative media campain

The media ingeneral are very critical in India. When you win even against a team like Afganistan it is written that India stuglled to win. it is easier said than done. I don't have any prenotions about the capabilities of our team. Our fast bowlers are good enough and spinners are better and vey high standard in international level right from India started playing international cricket. We always under estimate the capabilities of our team. Unlike in the past we used to depend on entirely spion but oflate from Kapil Dev era our fast bowlers are aslo giving good results. especially when matches are played in subcontinent all the subcontinent countries have the edge over othe countries. As all the four countries have farly good bowling interms of fast and spinners. All these bowlers are og high standard in international level. Like subcontinent players find it difficult to play in English summer and in Australia or Newzeland similarly they too find it very difficult to adjust to play in subcontinent. The countries form subcontinent should exploit this weekness of theirs and see they do not go beyound Semifinals.

hi shyamprasad, don't close your eyes and say it is dark around, please. Indian pace attack is pathetic in a tournament like this. Against a high school team or other SAARC countries apart from Srilanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh it may be good enough as you put it . Yes we do have decent pacers now in umesh Yadav, Varu Aaron and the like but the great selectors led by the ever wise but always failing Srikanth and the so called all perfect Dhoni won't look to sense but prefer to keep all retiring, semi retiring and unfit players like Zaheer, Harbhajan, Balaji etc because they are from one's backyard or they are faithful servants in team meetings . it is not that they have not played their part well in the past but any product however good it may be when taken in , should be thrown out if the expiry period has reached.

Why write only negative points
by shyamprasad on Sep 22, 2012 11:59 AM  | Hide replies

I don't understand why the press always talks only negative aspects of india before a big match. The kindm of problems what we are facing so to as are common to all teams more so for those teams from western part of the world. I remember very well The great Dean Jones after scoring a double century in Chennai was dehydrated and never turned for rest of match. Players from outside subcontinent find difficult to sustain the humid weather of subcontinent if not anything else. We should take advantage of that fact. if you think that Indians are weqak of playing real fast bowling at the same most people outside subcontinetent are traditionally weak against average to good spin bowling. if the subcontinent contries can field slightly better than in all probability the subcontinent countries should always hold an edge over all other contries. In the last few years the subcontinent fast bowlers are very good quality. Only the backing of media and the commentators is needed.

Irrespective who wins both already in Super 8 with no change to groups. India can use this as a practice match as its group is tough
India's Super 8 Group:
India
Australia
South Africa
Pakistan

I think there is no grouping as such. It will be like all the top placed teams in their group will play that 2nd placed team of the other group.

If India wins the game against England ( wishful thinking ) , then it may be in a different group. Pakistan has not started and they have the record of losing to Bangladesh many times . so don't make any absurd predictions at this hour , sirji.
