Firstly, Dravid is not a "modren era" player. He is more traditional and orthodox. His role is not to smash the bowlers but to be the backbone of the Indian innings which most often used to be built around him.
FYI, Praveen Kumar has a SR of 93. Ashwin has an SR of 73. Does it mean they are better test batsmen??
Batting in tests is not as easy as in T20 or ODI. You need realsballsto play out. Poor idiot like you who does not know test cricket is commenting on a test innings.

It's you the moron, not me. Good players play at a better strike rate which gives his bowlers enough time to take the 20 opposition wickets. Any captain with a brain would prefer someone like Viv Richards or Ricky Ponting who can score a century in 2 sessions and give his team the quick advantage, rather than someone like Rahul Dravid or Geoffrey Boycott who would play for 2 innings to score a 150.
You speak of Pravin Kumar and Aswin, do you know how much they average? I was mentioning players who averages more than 50 yet scored at a strike rate of more than 55.

Dire Straits according to your logic it is quite clear who best batsman in the test side is. It is sehwag whose explosive batting has helped us win many tests.
just look at the strike rates of the two batsmen it is quite clear who the better batsman is. I am not sure whether sachin strike rate is better than dravid in the first place. because no clear records are available. but even assuming so his strike rate is only a little better than dravid's but not by much. on the other hand sehwag strike rate is much much better than sachin's....on the top of that sehwag average is 50 plus...
thus your silly fave batsman sachin is nothing in front of sehwag who is the best batsman in indian test side and who gives time to our bowlers to get opponents out twice by scoring very fast and giving them plenty of time...
btw dire straits, we saw sachin's strike rate even against a 8th ranked team like NZ. nothing remains to be said after that...:)

sachin 190 matches 314 innings 15533 runs average 55.08 strike rate 54-55 runs (according to dire straits...there is no undubitable proof)
as is clear from the above stats kallis sangakkara sehwag are way ahead than sachin in average/strike rate...and this moron dire straits goes onandonaboutmoronsrt...these players have won more matches for their countries than sachin ever did for his country...

Playing for two days means you are giving more time to the bowlers to get you out. and if you are still at the crease not out, it mean you are a great batsman in technique to stay even on tough wickets.

We should ignore this type of People(Dire Straits) because they don't have the basic knowledge of Cricket.
Everyone is good enough to score at a strike rate of more than 41, unlike Dravid. His strike rate of 41 is the worst among all his contemporaries in world cricket.
From Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting, Hayden, Pietersen, Sangakkara, Clarke .... all these modern day players average above 50 and played their careers with a strike rate of more than 55. Even slow players like Kallis and Chaderpaul have much better strike rates than Dravid.
I dare you to find me one player from the modern era who has a strike rate of less than or equal to 41 other than Dravid ..... Go ahead!!

Going by your theory of strike rate criteria, some of the tailenders should be in the list of all time great batsmen.

I agree on that. But end of the day what really matters is did the individual's contribution helped the team to win matches. Dravid stands out here from the rest, he really played for the teams cause, to win matches not for the strike rate.
We all know that Dravid was a very humble player. personal records didnt matter to him. I like what Pujara stated. No can replace DRAVID. Pujara is concentrated on winning matches for INDIA and helping the team.Playing for the team and the country is what matters not comparisons.

koni, u say dravid does not play for his country...does it mean his score is not added to the team score?
Its good for your long term cricketing career. Stay away from indian media like SRT, Dhoni and Dravid.
For example comparing you with Dravid is a senseless question. But the intention is to get out something controversial from your response so that the media can make some quick money at the cost of your career.
Beware: These indian media guys are capable of ruining any persons life, reputation and professional career.

what is your problem? since pujara himself accepts that he can never replace dravid...what harm is there in sachin trying to replace dravid?
Pujara, The only things that count are Runs,Runs,Runs. after you have scored 10,000 runs, then the comparison is valid.Until then, keep developing your technique and attitude.
