Akram should leave this to the Selection committee. He should concentrate on ensuring that cricket is played again in pakistan.

Viru and Gauti
by Surojit Dutta on Oct 25, 2012 12:27 AM  | Hide replies

Time and again Virender Sehwag has been saved by BCCI by showing one good innings in 20 matches. It's a bit harsh for Gambhir that he is being put in the same bracket as Viru even though he is a far more solid batsman. The no. of chances that Sehwag has got is unimaginable for Yuvraj Singh also (in case of Test matches) and Ganguly in his time would have been dropped twice by the BCCI for such form. It is better to put forward the young guns like Rahane/Tiwari, etc. in home series with tough teams so that they are allowed to gain confidence for the tougher series abroad.

one good innings in 20 matches. If we go as per ur findings then the number of such innings would be in single digits.
Time you check hte stats before coming up with such statements.

He might not have done well in hte last year or so but same is the case with other batsmen.

Wasim is right
by mohan on Oct 24, 2012 10:12 PM  | Hide replies

Wasim Akram was one of the greatest bowlers of all time and has passion for cricket. He has been involved in coaching Indian cricketers and commentaries for various cricket games in country. He has full rights to speak his mind.

Good to hear his views. Also, I hope too that Viru and Gauti will not be replaced. Ultimately it is up to the bcci selectors to decide.

Why is he commenting about indian cricket team

I would like W.Akram to give this much attention to Pak cricket and not to poke his long nose in Indian cricket matters. We have good players who can give there suggestions. This guy should be more worried about state of Pak Cricket team. Does he, like many other pakis, staying in India to earn his dal roti??

Yogesh, he is associated with Indian cricket indirectly through the IPL thing. So, he has a right to air his views and his views are more likely to be spot on than yours or mine.

I beg the selectors act on their own brain and not get influenced
by K Ram on Oct 24, 2012 07:32 PM  | Hide replies

For heaven's sake, do not give too many chances to the out of form openers stating the age old illogical theory, "Form is temporary and class is permanent!" Our openers have time and again proved they lack class too and I beg they be replaced by Rahane/Vijay/Mukund/Shikar. When these players are waiting for their much deserved chances, why waste time and opportunity on failing, fading Viru and Gamhir? Give the new players a full series and a sufficiently longer run to settle and prove their worth. We already wasted enough time on the existing openers. None is indispensible and everyone however great his past records may be, should earn and retain his place in the team on CURRENT form. I again wish, Zak be replaced by an youngster too.

I agree too. But, there'll be a lot of hue and cry if his name is brought up. He's no more an asset and has become a liability to the team since long back. None has the courage to show him the exit doors. Even, MI suffered only due to his poor form in CL T20 and none had the courage to drop him. He himself won't accept the reality and keep denying much deserved youngsters their due chance. Utter greedy, selfish attitude to the core...

Does Wasim Akram get paid to write his opinions? Why do we not see opinions about the Australians, South Africans, England or even Pakistan being reported.
