Zaheer Abbas was nearing the end of his career. He knew that he could not hope to stay in the team on the basis of his historical record with Imran Khan leading Pakistan. He was not getting the runs, and he knew that the series he was playing was his last. After the second Test Match of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka in 1985, he therefore announced that the third Test of the series would be his last. Very sensible. He was but dropped from the squad for the third Test! Can we do something like this in India? Now or ever?
