by Abhinith Marvanthe on May 29, 2012 02:25 PM  | Hide replies

When India won world cup,team should have done this victory rally at least in major cities,But our players were so busy to get preparing for IPL,they forgot about that.Now who cares about this cup,it's like winning domestic cup....naaaaah boring!!!!!

You would have seen that celebration if the BCCI head quater were in Kolkata....
You cannot develop a sports culture overnight in some city;
Kolkata have it since centuries...

Despite having Geyle, DEvilliars, Dilshan, Kohli, Muralitharan and Zaheer not even qualified, Kumble was a better bet atleast he use to qualify for final four

really it is a tragedy..the big fight was supposed to be between DD and RC..but somehow both of them (through their own blunders) choose to lose..leaving clubs like kkr and csk..to fight it out.

Is it necessary..????
by SR Hari on May 29, 2012 02:21 PM  | Hide replies

I am reminded of the victory parade when Indian team returned from SA after winning the T20 World Cup. Not sure whether such a frenzy is needed for an IPL victory. Almost a holiday in Kolkata? Did RR or DC or CSK celebrate like this? The Chief Minister sending 3 of her colleagues to receive the team? Presenting them with Gold chain?

Why create so much hype for an IPL victory? Let Mohan Bagan or East Bengal teams win some tourney outside India and you celebrate, its acceptable.

This is sheer waste of time, money, energy, bringing down the productivity levels for the day. Didi is going nuttssss......

There is already a sports culture in Kolkata which no other city in India have this... They have been celebrating MOhan bagan wins like this although to scale down than this one..
so its not that KKR have to do something extra to get this.. its just they produced one more moment.

You are no one to decide that Hari...By the way dont talk about football at all...Bengal ruled and still rules India Football...and football is not game like cricket to be played with 4-5 country....If all country plays cricket India will never even qualify for World Cup Cricket

I never questioned Bengal's ability in football.... Read my post carefully. All I said is, celebrate this way if they win a tourney outside India, no problems. I never decided and never stopped it either. Just expressed my views. Period.

By the way cricket is played in about 40-45 nations as on date.

Oh...from where you got that figure Hari? 40-45?? And how many of these 40-45 compete in World Cup or in any major tournament? That all matters....dont take letters understand meaning.

@ Indian Indian

You better see the ICC website to understand about the qualifiers to know how many countries are competing. I never said cricket is being played in as many countries as football is being played. Why should you be worried about number of nations playing cricket or football when i expressed something about the way IPL victory is being celebrated in Kolkata?

Still, i reiterate, let EB or MB win a tournament outside India and you celebrate, all Indians will be proud about it.

Unnecessary hype is being made out of this. SRK's comment "KKR belongs to West Bengal"... What nonsense is this? Guy is trying to get some mileage out of this (apart from the money he is making. Let him make money as he had invested, as a businessman).

I understand West Bengal were not even in the SF of the National Football Championship. Ironically TN seems to be the runners up to Services. Bengal is loosing grip on Football now?

For those who dont understand... Why such big celebration
by Incredible India on May 29, 2012 02:07 PM  | Hide replies

A lot of Indians will think why so much hyped celebration for a private club; to understand this you have to understand the sports culture in West Bengal;
Kolkata is the only city or perhaps one of the two city in INdia if we include Goa(Panjim) where there is already a Sports Club culture; People here just love to talk and involve into sports.They have been celebrating though with smaller events for the football club; remind me of Mohan Bagan when they won ASEAN cup;

So this is not something installed into the people of Kolkata to celebrate KKR win this time; it was already there and all they needed was such a moment.
I have been to Kolkata in 2009 on the day when football star Maradona was going to come; I landed at night 11 and Maradona's flight was at 2 am night; however on my 10 km way to home I saw atleast 20 places where people had gathered and they have old village type projector and white cloths on which they were screening childhood documentory and matches of Maradona. I asked my uncle that who organized this is it centrally done and he said no its all the local gully and nukkad people....

Eden Garden was truly a great experience for Cricket; however it has been boiled down recently after Sharad Pawar and N.Srinivasan took over BCCI; they promoted Mumbai and Chennai and somehow the ever exciting Eden got lost...
