Oh god! That means, a few years from now, the Indian team will have five or six "selfish" batsmen!

And each of them will score a selfish century so the total would be around 500 or 600. And i think that total is enough to be defended by our great great bowlers.:). B N by mentioning this line you proved you really want India to win.

That's the point I have been making - "selfish" players like Tendulkar are good for the team. Instead of being criticised, Sachin deserves to be praised for his 100 "selfish" 100s and all his "selfish" runs.

Having talent is different than ability to turn it big. We don't have to look beyond the career of Vinod Kambli for that. There were days when people used to frenetically argue who is best among Sachin, Lara and Kambli. What happened later was history. Sachin has been seeing Rohit for some time now. Had he not seen something special in Rohit, he would'nt have picked him ahead of others like Raina who played more match winning innings than Rohit.

players exchange programme
by veerapuram dharan on Mar 30, 2012 12:09 PM  | Hide replies

we all have seen new players getting exposure into foreign conditions through players exchange programme..similarly, we should have selectors exchange programme where our selectors would take over the aus cricket and they will reinstate ponting, warne, mcgrath etc and their selectors led by inverarity will remove tendulkar..this is the only way to show the door on rigid sachin..

you seem to imply that i target players and label them as selfish. perhaps thats because thats what you do since you are now targetting virat for no reason. if virat indeed does start to play as selfish a game as sachin does, rest assured i wont hesitate to criticize him. till then, you can talk about sachin and do us a favour by not irrelevantly bring other players into the picture.

I am not "targetting" Virat. I'm merely reminding you that your definition of "selfish" applies to more than one individual...
Personally I'm saying neither Virat nor Sachin is selfish..
Both score for the team.
Hence sometimes they score fast.. sometimes slow..
Virat's Lanka century was slow. But I don't say it was "selfish"..

READ my message.
IF something in your logic of targetting Sachin applies to anyone, including Virat; I WILL bring it up.
To show you the mirror.

This analysis of "scoring slow at the expense of the team for personal goal" is also your own fabrication...

Else WHY don't you haul up Virat's SLOW century against Lanka? He WAS moving towards his century and was slow.
WHY don't you haul up Gambhir against Lanka? He finished his "personal" century and departed to the pavilion...
Does that mean "selfish". NOT in my books.
But if I apply YOUR logic which YOU use to regularly belittle Sachin in this forum, then Gambhir becomes "selfish".
Which YOU just don't want to acknolwedge on this forum? :)

AP, if you are sugegsting that Virat and gambhir played slow knocks against SL, then i can only say sachin's knock against bangladesh was like watching a snail. FYI, kohli played at a SR of 90 and gambhir at 85. and in cricket those extra 20-25 runs matter. India got 304 against SL, a better bowling attack. did you consider that? they ended up with 289 aginst bangla. it turned out that 304 was enough even for our bowlers to defend.

If you believe that virat and gambir were slow against SL then i think sachin was like a tortoise against bangla. virat had a SR of 90 and ganbhir had 85. and in cricket those few extra deliveries and runs matter. those 20-25 runs matter. surely you know this. we got 304 against SL, a better bowling attack. and even our bowler were able to defend it.

yeah? then why dont i see it refelected in your posts? i can see you bringing up virat kohli for every counter rebuttal against sachin.
and reagrding fast and slow scoring, i agree that there are times when you score slow, however good a player you might be. scoring slow is not a crime. it is if you score slow to achieve some personal goal at the expense of the team. it seems to me as if you sachin fans just dont get this. or you just dont want to acknowledge it.

sure. i thought sachin was brilliant when india won the 3rd test aginst SL in colombo last year. even though VVS made a century, sachin's 50 was extremely well executed. he handled randiv expecially well and it was a pleasure to see that innings, and i was disappointed to see him get out.

sure. i thought sachin was brilliant sgainst srilanka in the 3rd test in colombo last year that we won. VVS got a century there, but i thiought sachin's 50 was superior because he looked really good out there. handled the spinners really well. i was disappointed when he got out. and frankly i dont mind seeing him bat like that at all. his 80 recently against australia in melbourne was good as well. flawless.

i dont get your question. which match? i think you should understand that i dont blame sachin for indias every loss. there are losses that happen because of bad play. i am shouting hoarse that there are losses that happoen due to selfish play. i blame sachin (partly) for the most recent bdesh defeatin the asia cup. and i also answered your query about virat and gambhir being slow, but the mod doesnt seem to like my posts although idont see anything abusive in it. maybe i can repost it as a new thread or down below :
