Is sachin a coward???
by teju sagar on Feb 01, 2012 08:40 AM

I dont think he should have quit after WC as i would have rated him as a coward who was scare to face the ball in fear of losing a few odd matches.. come on guys he is not gona die if we lost this series.. these bunch of guys has given us a lot of victory and if you ppl look at the scores and perfomance than its these seniors because of whom we have been able to get those runs above 100 as a team.. sure there is a time for everyone to leave but it should not e forced and unrespectable towards those who have atleast given india certain pride against the world who did not consider india as nothing.. for EG Big B Sachin, SRK, Sania, Anand and many more to name from north to east and west to south because of whom india is known as well apart of business leaders and politics... dont be harsh to them

Sachin should announce his retirement for eg. like after certain series instead of chasing records. He appears so desperate!! People have started to feel the same!!

The same people called him G-0-D. The same people are calling him names now...... Why do most of our Indian fans people elevate a person to the peak and criticize a person as if he is nothing!! Moderation is a word which is non-existent for most of the fans!

All this stems from the subcontinental culture of yearning for 'stars' and 'match winners' that win matches single handedly. It makes for good TV. But it cannot win 16 consecutive tests like Aus did twice. We do not need super stars or so-called 'match winners'. We just need consistent contributors. Imagine the number of successful test matches Sachin would have been part of if he had played for Australia that has multiple consistent contributors.

I do not think he will play any more tests. This could very well be and should be his last series.

The power of hindsight tells us that he should have retired after the world cup. But if India had ended up with the same result of 8-0 (most likely) without him, he would have been hung out to dry for deserting India. Funny !!!

Actually in my opinion Sachin is not desperate for records. He just loves the game so much, he does not know a life after it. Hence he continues playing. Much like Kapil Dev, who was a a born sportsman who did not know life outside cricket. Hence one day he had to be kicked out. I am afraid that the same fate might befall Sachin if he does not think of a life after cricket and makes plans in advance. It happens to lot of people, some people I know have worked so hard all their lives that they go insane after they reture and drive everybody nuts. So no, I don't think Sachin is a record chaser, just someone who loves the game too much to quit.

I agree Injun Abhi. Thanks for your earlier positive feedback as well.
But we should hope and pray he gets his 100th century soon. It is Not only because it will be one record that will never be broken. It is also because it is the culmination of all hard work and it is the fulfillment of the promise ( When Sachin started I remember Gavaskar opined that Sachin will score 100 hundreds). It is not like shining in one off innings like 400 not out, This requires dedication, hard work, longevity consistency and above all passion.

Sorry if I came across as taking a dig at Lara.I picked 400* as it is well known to highlight the difference between one innings accomplishment versus the career accomplishment.

I agree Pat Ralph. For Pakis, it is a hobby to announce retirement, and come back 1-2 series later.

Just name a single professional cricketer who plays for FREE.

You wanted one name - Mic Clarke Aus current captain clearly said Aus Cricket was his priority (then just player couple of years back) and did not want to be part of IPL auction even though he would have earned 10x times or more than what CA would pay in a year.

No one need to play for free - but he did not care about excess money unlike Sachin, who wants to milk money (not from cricket alone but from huge contracts) if he keeps playing for Team India!

I am pure fan of Sachin cricket skills (love to see him succeed as well as any Indian players) but not his selfish attitude.

If my fav captain Ganguly was asked to go due to his age even when he performed well before retirement, why not other stars who were past his age now ?

Clarke and Ponting cannot travel leaving family to India for IPL...seriously and if IPL were held in NZ, they would have flown to play.

It's nothing to do with ptrioism for country for those guys, its about time management between cricket and family.

Having said that IPL is definitely an over dose and players like Sachin, Sehwag, Darvid who have made their money can be a mascot and not play and instead focus on Test cricket.

Imran was performing well for Pak and he retired on high (wc win), unlike Sachin who was part of the 8x consecutive overseas losses. He & other superstars (all top 7 minus Kohli) don't feel ashamed at all.

Sachin (like Gavaskar) is man of milestones (or records) hence struggling to get 100th ton. If he never cared about it, he would have got it long back.

I wish him to get his ton sooner so it does not impact team India (bcas other teams are just taking adv of this).
