Rested or dropped ?
by Ganesh on Feb 29, 2012 08:33 AM  | Hide replies

As Ravi Shastri often says in commentary these days 'Some of the Indian team players should be told that they are being DROPPED for non performance in matches rather than being told they are RESTED".

What happened to young MANOJ TIWARY ? In entire Aussie tour he was just a passenger on all the aeroplanes. Was he 'rested' for all the ODIs ? Because he was tired and jet lagges for 1 long month after long flight from India to Aus. ?

Why are they using this word 'Rested' meaninglessly ? Is it because the ysteryear great players cannot be dropped at all even if their present form is bad ?

You have raised a very valid question. I would say they are DROPPED rather then being rested.

May be the selection committee is scared to use to word DROPPED so they say they are rested. But rested for what?

Manoj Tiwari should forget this tour like a nightmare. He should have played at least one match but someone thought it otherwise.

most important
by thoughtfulindian on Feb 29, 2012 08:21 AM

Most important decision has been taken i.e. to play against Bangaldesh...This is the only way Indian team will remember what it is like to win a series...Good booster...and then they can get back to selling coke, pepsi and airtel sim cards...Proud of my inidan team and their sponsors

They should keep sachin because against bangladesh,he can easily make his centuary for which he is under pressure. And after that if pressure is off, keep him or he should quit later.give chance to chetan pujara, rahane

Bowling attack for the sub-continental conditions
by Nikhil Shah on Feb 29, 2012 01:06 AM  | Hide replies

Inspite of being without Sachin or Sehwag it should be able to find the batting lineup with good fielders.

In Bangladesh, India ODI bowling attack should be pretty solid with 2 dibly dobly seamers and 3 spinners. Jadeja should be the all-rounder spinner in Dhaka, Rahul Sharma and Ashwin should form the spin trio,

I would also like to see Monish Parmar and Varun Aaron. I think Varun is a better ODI bowler than Yadav, and Monish Parmar is a genuine offspinner in the mold of Murali with 92 wkts @ 18.94

better rest Srilanka

Better to give rest to srilanka, otherwise they will spoil the sprit of the game.

Why rest
by Sharan Padmanabhan on Feb 28, 2012 11:14 PM  | Hide replies

With all due respect to the Maestro...Let him play the Asia Cup and score his 100th century and subsequently will ease him to make a decision.
Sehwag should use this opportunity to come back to form. Gambhir & Dhoni needs rest (it is not easy to be the captain of Indian cricket team). His is still my captain for all forms of the game. Vice-Captain to me remains with Gambhir. Kohli is great guy and to me he will be captain for the next world cup but for now let him focus on his batting and start playing more one-down. Also we should allow Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Raina, Tiwary, etc to play county cricket (England/SAfrica/Aus) to get more exposed to the conditions (BCCI today is handicapping these players by not providing the green pitches and not allowing them to play overseas). So did we watch India losing in Australia or the team BCCI? Autonomy status of BCCI should be knocked off!! So coming back to the topic of discussion - Sachin should play and get his 100th ton and exit out his ODI career and focus only on tests. Sehwag..as I said need to get into form. If selectors let Sehway focus on his batting (and make it a mandate to him) and try Virat Kohli as a captain.

I agree..This is a chance to for sachin to complete his 100th century...If he continues to play against good teams, he will always buckle under pressure and will be 100 yrs old before he scores his 100th...If need be india's match fixing skills can be put to use and get Sachins 100..and then it will be easier to make a decision for him
