Indian team does not deserve to win
by t xz on Feb 23, 2012 01:52 AM

The way they have been playing for past 2 months, the Indian team does not deserve to be in finals. Except for 1-2 good performances here and there by Dhoni, Gambhir and couple of others in the ODIs their overall performance has been dismal. The bowling unit is totally clueless on how to bowl the last 10 overs and the bowlers are making excuses on how not to bowl the final overs. Against Aus, Zaheer completed his quota in the 40th over and against SL Vinay Kumar walked off the field with cramps and not wanting to bowl the last 2 overs. The batsmen don't seem to know how to play on bouncy wickets and the youngsters are not making good use of the opportunities. Raina does not know how to play a bouncer even after 6 years in international cricket, Rohit Sharma wasted all the opportunities he was given. Sachin and Sehwag seem to have forgotten how to bat. Instead of trying to play like a team and show unity, there seems to be some cold war going on in the dressing room with contradictory statements made by players to the media. And the BCCI chief says that there is no need to introspect and citing all the crap that they just won 2 home series and win loss is part of the game etc. Look at SL. Except Malinga they dont have any real world class bowler, still they are fighting it out and defeated Aus convincingly. Even if India somehow get into the finals, they will not win a single game. The Aus will lift their game by a new notches in the finals.

The selection of a team captain
by Nikhil Shah on Feb 23, 2012 12:22 AM

How does the BCCI team selectors pick a captain? Is it on a trail and error basis. Is the decision arbitrary ? In the corporate world a young and junior project leader, leading a bunch of seniors is a certain disaster. Why ?

Seniors feel that they are short changed and neglected for their achievements and in the Indian thought process, it is a case of under-appreciated.

Yuvraj the past seems to have expressed that. In the early 2000s when Sehwag entered the Indian team, there was not spot for Sehwag in the Test middle order lineup and had to open since the Fab four were well established.

Over years Sehwag, Harbhajan and Yuvraj were under the scanner and were in trouble during the Greg-Chappell controversy years.

I think with Dhoni the rift between the seniors and Dhoni has re-emerged and we are in a crisis here that nobody is aware of which probably started in the last English tours.

How can the BCCI step in ? If it never showed any importance to the contributions of Sehwag and Gambhir ? If Yuvraj and Harbhajan have expressed dis-satifaction ?

Sehwag made group to dump Dhoni down by all means ?
by km vb on Feb 22, 2012 11:52 PM  | Hide replies

It seeems that Sehwag made group within the team members especially among seniors and few juniors to dump down Dhoni by all means.

Sehwag being a member is ordinary compared to the resposibilities of captaincy and he needed to be sacked from all formats and also to warn others involved. Also needed to develop team with young generation.

Viru, in my opinion, is not captaincy material. He is too laid back. There is no fire in him. But he is somebody who cannot be dropped so easily, having scored a double very recently.
We need to look at somebody like Kohli who has fire in him and gets really worked up when he ends on the losing side.

BOUNCY TRACKS-WHETHER WILL BE DISCUSSED IN 2025 ALSO?:
by Srinivasan Renganathan on Feb 22, 2012 11:00 PM  | Hide replies

Unless bouncy tracks are made in India, the same will be discussed even after 15 years.
I think in 1987 or so, Kapil Dev was appointed for improving the conditions of the tracks to suite fast bowling in India. Since then nothing has happened.
Winning in ODI matches is about taking singles, rotating the strike and not in hitting mad sixes with cross batted shots.
India pitches are suited for these types of shots where even a mishit goes for a six, unlike in Austalia, england, NZ, where only a better technique matters.
Since Indian players are grown up in playing in the front foot always due to the dusty pitches, they cannot play in the backfoot in foreign conditions, cannot play the pull shot efficiently, nor can play square of the wicket on both the sides.
Also, playing in the V-area with the straight bat is considered technically sound by our experts which wont fetch quick runs in ODI. This is the basic reason for Indian players failure in bouncy tracks.

Nothing is going to change. But the day is not far off when we would be beaten at home by foreign spinners. Then it would be too late.

Dhoni, the best available choice??
by Nostradamus Great on Feb 22, 2012 10:40 PM  | Hide replies

It is statements like this that summarizes the conditions and mentality of the team! No world class team would have something like this being said... No talks abt performance.. no talks abt ability... Just that we don't have anyone else to do the job so we have to keep him!

If that is true, then its a shame on a board that claims that they control the game! A captain is the guy who LEADS the team.. and not the one that sits on the Performance of the team! When the team wins, credit goes to Captain, his tactics and brilliance.. When the exact same team loses in a pathetic fashion, blame is on how the seniors let the team down.. how slow they are... etc etc.. And there is no inquiry as to why this team which was a No 1 team in Tests fell on their face and shamelessly lost 8 straight matches without even putting a fight!!!

Revamp the team... Put in players who PERFORM... In Australia, if someone comes in place of another, its almost the end of someones career and a bright beginning to a new career... Thats the amt of competition and talent. and look at us.. We are keeping ppl in the team because we don't have any other choice.. wow!

The next series is an "away" series in Sri Lanka. It is not an easy tour. They have dead pitches there. Our bowling will lose whatever confidence is left.
But good idea to look at Virat Kohli. But then Viru and Gambhir will sulk.

Now that we know that in Indian team, a Captain cannot win the match by his tactics alone, lets throw in the captaincy to someone young like Virat Kohli... We are on a losing streak... So making this change is not going to hurt us anyways... At least we will have someone who has a talent, skills and a long career prospect... Dhoni's time in test cricket is over... As a keeper, as a player and as a captain!

He can save his face by saying "I am retiring from Tests so that I can play WC 2015... he he"

yeah! but we will have to run around for another captain in 2-3 years! Viru is not young... and certainly not the future of Indian cricket!

Lets start off with a vision that we will regain No 1 spot by 2014. And that too on merit.. not by other teams beating each other!

I think the days of players playing for 10 yrs plus is over.
I think going ofrward , we have to look for a new team every 5 years. Probably this is the last great generation that we have.
With IPL and stuff player lives have been cut short.

Mr.NG,
M.Clarke being a nice player/captain??? I think he is one of those players like Chanderpaul, Sarwan etc. who scores/gets into form only against the Indians.
The only reason for his place to be retained in the team for another year may be due to the lack of seniors in the Australian Team. Otherwise, by this time he would have been shown the Ponting way...

FORM IS TEMPROARY BUT CLASS IS PERMANENT- INDIAN FAN-JAI HOOOO:
by Srinivasan Renganathan on Feb 22, 2012 10:22 PM  | Hide replies

It’s not the Seniors or Juniors that is the reason for the failure in Australia & England. It’s because the combined standard of the Aus/Eng players is better than that of India.
More importantly, Indian batsman cannot play more than (140 KMS/Hr fast bowling in India) 135 Kms pace in Bouncy tracks. Also, the Indian team for the last 10 years also cannot handle even spinners like Danish Kaneria, Panesar, even brade Hodge etc.. less to speak about Swann, Muralitharan etc. Since, in the 90’s when even vinod kambli hit warne, Warne was not considered great. But, in the later stages, warne too became dificult to handle.
So, the problem is not lack of form or fitness etc etc…
When the same team comes to India, everyone will regain their form immediately and the same team will create many more records. After all FORM IS TEMPROARY BUT, CLASS IS PERMAMENT according to the Indian commentators and fans like ME.
Jai Youngistan & Mongisthan.

Wait and watch.. When IPL comes, we are going to have record audience... People will throw in their money for some entertainment!

Indian cricket is ruined... Thats a straight forward way to put it...

Dhoni...
by Nostradamus Great on Feb 22, 2012 10:13 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni is usually an excellent guy to face the press. He is calm and he carefully uses his words to make sure that nothing is taken out of context.. But may be cos of his continuous failure as a captain and player in test matches, he lost the ability in talking to the press. Even if its true, he shld not talk about the team members in a negative way in the press. Especially when everyone knows that the press is hungry for some news. The statement that having the 3 seniors would mean the opposition would score 20 runs extra, is absolutely immature. That is something that he shld be talking to the selectors or BCCI or team management...

Perhaps he is doing this to divert the attention in to a bigger mess within the team than his inefficiency as a captain and player...

This is absolutely unfortunate for a team that has so much potential... and that has been going on a lean patch! BCCI shld not just count their money.. This decline will bring down the whole system and very soon BCCI will lose its position as the "muscle power of cricket"..

yeah! IPL is coming.. time to stop crying and enjoy some senseless cricket on Flat Indian pitches.. time for new team songs... and Regional fights in India... Wow! So many distractions to forget the shameless performances in England and Australia... ;-)

Yes there is something rotten goign on in the team. Dhoni and Viru clashed during the T20 world cup, couple of years back and it seems they are carrying it over.

Viru's irresponsible batting is irking Dhini perhaps.

But Dhoni saying they are too old to play ODI does not sound good.

Perhaps Viru's irresponsible batting is something that he is doing on purpose cos of Dhoni... No matter how much ever the team management covers it up, the BIGGEST reason why India is failing is because of the issues within the team. Not sure whether Dhoni started it or Sehwag or Gambhir... BCCI shld step in and sort it out or we will see India going way down the drain pretty soon!

Dhoni might have felt let down by the seniors after the 4-0 debacle in england and australia. It spoiled Dhoni's record. But he also has to take blame for his weird fielding placements and stuff.

Gambhir is known to be a hot head. At the end of the day they are all humans with human emotions.
Perhaps Dhoni is feeling that he cannot control the team fully with Sachin and Viru in the team as their cricketing accomplishments are bigger than Dhoni's. Dhoni has only his captaincy success to talk about.

What was his contribution in those 8 test matches? he couldnt even hold his bat properly... The team is feeling let down by this so-called cool captain!

His statement that they would give a lot of chances for Rohit is BS! That means Rohit is assured of his place in the team no matter what and someone would lose their spot for facilitating that. Which team would do like this other than India??

Poor Rohit Sharma is feeling the pressure now. I don't think he is mentally strong as Virat Kohli.
This has very chance of escalating into a fight within BCCI with the CSK faction on one side and the non-CSK on the other

SENIORS VS JUNIORS-DHONI-SELFISH FELLOW:
by Srinivasan Renganathan on Feb 22, 2012 09:13 PM  | Hide replies

It is true that Sewhag, Sachin etc are not not scoring runs. But, what about the so called youngisthan (Monkey-mongisthan) players are doing. What about the scores or Rohit Sharma, Raina, Jadeja etc.

It is foolish on the part of Dhoni to ridicule the seniors at public conference. Who has given him the right to do so? Afterall Gambhir was right in knuckling him for dragging the ODI Vs australia to the 50th Over, where even Ashwin, Jadeja could have finished it by the 47th over. Dhoni has become so arrogant, but that’s the general attitude of his state. He cannot be different from others from that part of the region.
His arrogance in dropping Aswhin from the finals of the World cup and immediately telling the same in the Post match conference shows his apprehensiveness if the results would have gone wrong. Indian cricket will be better, if this selfish Dhoni is removed from Indian cricket. I would like to mention that I am not a fan of Tendulkar simply because he has not performed in crunch situations. But, still he is a much more gentleman than this Idiotic Dhoni…

True Mr. Nostradamus,
I have nothing against Tendulkar or Dhoni.
Though I am not a big fan of Tendulkar, He is not the only failure in the team as manipulator Dhoni thinks. I was a fan of Dhoni some 4 years back, but now he is the most selfish player in the team. His decisions are glaringly manipulative and is ridiculous. Its better for Indian cricket if he is replaced by another one.
