even if 6 balls were bowled, in fact, ind wud hv lost the last wkt. n scores wud hv been tied. but yes, umps shud b punished for this. even earlier, during the tour, ind bowler ashwin was allowed to bowl an over inspite of his completing the quota. after bowling 2 balls, umps noticed n changed the bowler mid-way.

thanks to dhoni for slowing down the run rate and then trying to have a thrilling end in both the matches...

You need to understand few facts and accept them.

1. Every opposition bowls better than Indians and they bowl to a plan. So you don't get too may loose deliveries.

2. The oppoisiton has really worked out a fielding plan for Dhoni for his heavy bottom handed batting style. So it has become too difficult for him to take even singles.

3. Considering the above, Dhoni is not improvising.

4. Even if Dhoni wishes, when you are 7 or 8 down, it would be impossible for a captain to expose the tail too much and still expect the team to win.

We had 5 below 20 runs performances from our top 7 batsmen. So why blame Dhoni alone. It has become a habit of us to blame the last men standing in the ground for the failure. We need to accept it us a team game and go forward.

by Salil on Feb 14, 2012 11:51 PM

may be and also ...turnign which way?
you never know what that last ball could have been. Runs or even a wicket..

Also i don't think this 1 ball goof up, this early in the game can change the out come of the match.

turning point.

another major turning point , besides the 3oth , was inclusion of the best batsman on earth. this ensured that india will not win. they only ended up saving the match with fluke innings from gambhir & galli ka cricketer dhoni

I notice that people in this forum commenting that if SRT scores a century, India is definite to loose. And if he fails, we still attribute his failure to be the major reason for the team's failure. Make up your mind. Remember 5 of the 8 batsmen (forget about Ashwin as a batsman)did not score above 15. Why only blame only one. He didn's affect the chances for the rest of the batsmen, right? He scored his runs by the 4th over and got out right? So what did the rest do for the remaining 46 overs? But for 2 batsmen, ther rest played below average cricket. That was the major reason for our failure to get full points yesterday

UNIQUE INDIA

EARLIER, INDIA COULD NEVER CHASE ANY TOTAL! NOW, IT CAN CHASE 400 OR 140 ONLY BUT STILL MANAGE TO ALMOST LOSE EVEN IF IT WINS!

THEY HAVE TOO MUCH OF A COMFORT FACTOR & KEEP CHASING UNTIL THE LAST BALL! THEY SHOULD MENTALLY BE PREPARED FOR 6 TO 10 OVERS LESS THAN ACTUAL NO. OF OVERS LEFT TO MANAGE A DECENT TOTAL & WIN COMFORTABLY THAN KEEP SULING TIL THE END BALL - TOO MUCH TOO LATE TOO MANY TIMES!

I agree. India never shows the urgency in the middle overs and plan to finish the match earlier. India needs to come out of this comfort feeling to score as many bonus points as possible. It could come handy towards the end of the league matches.

missed the match by one ball?
by KISHORE KUMAR on Feb 14, 2012 09:46 PM

I don't think so.Because, captain came to know it only after the match was over or otherwise the team manegment should have raised the issue with 3rd umpire.

IDEAL INDIAN TEAM FOR REMAINING MATCHES.
by Srinivasan Renganathan on Feb 14, 2012 09:30 PM  | Hide replies

1.      Sachin Tendulkar (VS Australia) or
Sewhag (VS Sri Lanka).
2.      Gautham Gambhir.
3.      Virat Kohli (Aus) or Rohit Sharma (Sri Lanka)..
4.      Suresh Raina (Aus) or Manoj Tiwari (Sri Lanka).
5.      Ravindra Jadeja.
6.      M.S.Dhoni.
7.      Irfan Pathan.
8.      R.Ashwin.
9.      Vinay Kumar.
10.      Rahul Sharma.
11.      Umesh Yadhav.
If Players are rotated based on the opposition and kind of pitches and not just for the sake of just roatation, this Indian team can win most of the matches against both Sri Lanka and Australia.
Sewhag should not be exposed against Australia (at least in Australian Pitches). If 5 main line bowlers are selected, India can contain the opposition/have more flexibility, provided the batsman at the top does not play rash shots, particularly against the Australians.
It’s the singles that wins ODI matches. If, Kohli, Raina and Jadeja are playing at the top bewtween the 20th and 40th Overs, where more singles can be taken, India can definitely win at ease rather than boiling it up to the end as in the last two matches which is unnecessary.

Definitely the umpires should be penalised , as when there is even slow over rate or anything even small by players they are punished.
So, here the umpire who called the over & the 3rd umpire should be penalised.

Why is everyone going after Sachin for nothing?
by Another Critic on Feb 14, 2012 09:16 PM  | Hide replies

There are two other players in the team, Virat and Rohit, who are supposedly the in-form batsmen that scored the same number of runs taking more deliveries than Sachin. Not to mention, one got out not being able to put his bat to the ball and the other not being able to run properly between the wickets. At least Sachin got out for a genuine knick.

yes , good comparison. they all are the greatest batsmen of this era , where as sachin has just made his debut in intl cricket after playing domestic cricket for 22 yrs. yet he played better than them all.
