Local cricket Flawed
by siva kumar on Jan 01, 2013 07:33 AM

Any coach transforming Indian cricketers is really difficult. First local format of cricket like Ranji trophy rules are flawed. Like first innings lead is sufficient to get points.Instead the motive should be for out right win. Next local cricket is played on dead flat pitches where Jadeja like players can score 300 runs. Atleast 50% of the pitches should be converted into bouncy and seaming pitches where batsmen's and bowlers' ability will be really tested. Indian cricketers' stamina is abysmally low due to poor diet. thatswhy all hopeful seamers run out of steam within one or two years for example Ishant sharma, Munaf patel, Irfan Pathan etc,.. Until these matters given due importance no coach can suddenly improve Indian players from any state.

I think Anil Kumble can make a great coach
by Amod Karnik on Jan 01, 2013 01:34 AM  | Hide replies

Reason i say so??
Cos he was always a thinking cricketer......inspite of limited ability to turn the ball,he became India's biggest matchwinner cos he outthought batsmen...i think Kumble can bring a lot of strategy and cunning into planning and execution.......plus,Kumble is the only guy who can mentor Ojha and bring Bhajji back to his best...i still think Bhajji has got 3 to4 years of top cricket left in him.

Main worry is seam bowling department. B Kumar is obviously talented but so was Ishant Sharma 3 years back. Wemay become too dependent on Umesh Yadav in the next couple of years.....

Commendable analysis about Anil Kumble. "In spite of limited ability to turn the ball" is correct. most of the times he didn't turn the ball at all which confused the batsmen. He was most successful that is the moot point..

Kapil Dev 5-28 vs Aus Melbourne 1980-81 is life time best by an indian on foreign soil so kapil paji can only save MSD?

If intention is good
by thomas mathew on Dec 31, 2012 11:30 PM

If his intention is good and if he really feels from his heart that he can be the coach, Ganguly would be a great choice being from the contemporary cricket , with the aggression that is required and not a meek spectator and who can call a spade a spade , probably this can bring in bright days for Indian cricket .

Best Possible team for ODIs now for India
by Akash Mehra on Dec 31, 2012 11:10 PM  | Hide replies

1) Rahane
2) Gambhir
3) Kohli
4) Pujara
5) Yuvraj
6) Dhoni
7) Ashwin
8) Umesh Yadav ( after he is fit)
9) Bhuvaneswar Kumar
10)Rahul Sharma
11)Ashok Dhinda

Players like Rohit,Sehwag, Ishanth are given somany opportunities without getting any consistent performance from them.

Ashwin can be treated as an allrounder now so no need to take 7th specialist batsman.Instead a bowler can be selected ...

we have enough part-time spinners like Yuvi and Raina. I think instead of Pujara, Raina should be a defacto selection for ODIs (fantastic ability to accelerate). I would pull our Rahul Sharma and slot in Irfan Pathan (when fit) as another bowling all-rounder. So then the team will have 5 bowlers 2 part-timers, while there will be 6 batsmen 2 bowlers who can bat pretty well!

Team is in Transition
by Akash Mehra on Dec 31, 2012 11:05 PM

Indian cricket is at the cross roads. India's greatest cricketers ever Sachin,Kumble,Saurav,Dravid,Laxman all are retired or in partial retirement like Sachin.

It is time to experiment with the youth brigade, the future of Indian cricket is in the hands of youngsters..

The team for 3 formats needs to be different.

Players like Pujara needs to be considered for ODIs too because team needs technically sound batsman in middle order to combat swing and speed on helpful pitches.

Rahul sharma was shaping up well needs to be looked into again as all the other leg spinners are looking out of sorts..

A foreign coach with a good vision and planning is the need of the hour as an Indian coach however may be good but may not be objective due to regional considerations.

My Teams
by K Ram on Dec 31, 2012 10:56 PM  | Hide replies

My team for ODIs :

1. Ajinkhya rahane
2. Sachin Tendulkar (a lot better than useless Gauty / Sehwag; hence, plead him to reconsider his decision to quit. Let him quit test cricket which is more demanding for his age)
3. Suresh raina
4. Virat Kohli
5. Yuvaraj Singh (Vice captain)
6. Dinesh Karthik (As a pure batsman and back up wicket keeper)
7. MSD (Captain)
8. Ashwin
9. Pragyan Ojha
10. Buvanesh Kumar
11. AB Dinda (can be rested in one format) / Pankaj Singh / Imtiaz Ahmed / Behera

For Tests :

1. Ajinkhya Rahane
2. V. Sehwag (when clicks, a match winner of course) / M. Vijay / Shikar Dawan (if fit)
3. Pujara
4. Kohli (Vice Captain) / Ashwin (Depending on the match situation)
5. Manoj Tiwary
6. S. Badrinath / I.K. Pathan / W. Saha (can double up as a back up WK as well and a good, solid bat of course)
7. MSD (Captain) / K.D. Karthik / Saha (on rotation)
8. R. Ashwin / Harbhajan
9. P. Ojha
10. AB. Dinda
11. Bhuvanesh Kumar / S. Sreesanth (if fit)

For T20Is:

1. Ajinkhya Rahane
2. Murali Vijay / S. Dawan / Unmukt Chand / R. Uthappa (but, Uthappa is not consistent)
3. Suresh Raina
4. V. Kohli
5. Yuvaraj Singh
6. K.D. Karthik (he's one of the finest batsmen in this format and must be in the XI)
7. MSD (Captain, a great bat and a good finisher)
8. Ashwin / Harbhajan
9. P. Chawla / Yusuf Pathan / Irfan Pathan
10. Bhuvanesh Kumar / L. Balaji
11. AB. Dinda / Pankaj Singh

Umesh Yadhav must be the lead pacer if fit in at least 2 formats
