PROP- UP A NEW PACE ATTACK AND ADD BITE TO SPIN ATTACK
by damodaran mohan on Dec 11, 2012 03:58 PM

Youngsters like Umesh Yadav,Ishant Sharma,Dinda,Varun Aron,Shreesant.. etc. have not been groomed or coached adequately with overdependence on Zaheer. So the much needed complimentary pace attack to support the spin duo it is “work in progress”.Even the Spin attack is raw and inexperienced and need good coaching and guidance by seniors like Kumble etc. Ashwin and Ojha need to hone their skill further for bowling in all types of pitches, not just on ‘rank turners’ and have to learn from their English counterparts –speed of delivery, use of body push etc. Given this background of current bowling strength question remains if this bowling unit can take 20 wickets for a TEST win ? Coming back to batting, Sehwag-Gambhir opening pair are increasingly becoming totally undependable and a pure gamble. While Sehwag’s approach looks very casual Gambhir repeatedly fails to convert good start into big scores with lot of tentativeness in his shot making, foot movement besides running out partners. Gambhir the aspiring captain actually appears to be bigger problem than Sehwag and has to be on notice if Dhoni is to continue as captain. Sachin the little master plays more like a novice these days than the seasoned player that he is and is destabilizing the entire middle order batting. He should be retired forthwith or at least sent down in batting order.

THE REBUILDING CANNOT WAIT ANY LONGER
by damodaran mohan on Dec 11, 2012 03:49 PM  | Hide replies

Not impossible but looks difficult. It is a story of missed opportunities of progressive and gradual course correction for over a yr and half. Actually the slide started immidiately after the WC win. When India got the dual drubbing of 8-0 in England and Australia BCCI made light of it citing foreign conditions, bouncy pitches etc. and said “India was still one of the best sides in the world” and would prove it in Home series. BCCI arranged a lowly key WI and NZ series which India won and helped deceive itself.Still they had not woken up. The English series was to be the real Test..Fortunately or unfortunately the English played a wrong playing XI resulting in easy win for India at Motera adding to India’s complacency. The Mumbai TEST was the first wake up call and Kolkata the confirmation of India’s all round TEST decline. Actually when Zaheer limped out after dozen overs clutching his thigh , Bhajji also failed and Sehwag pulled out in England…… internal squabbling …all these were early signs and even after subsequent washouts etc., went unattended by BCCI and so the problems have compounded and on many fronts. Openers-- both batters and bowlers are performing below par. While batting opening problem is not that serious the opening pace attack bowling having depended too much on Zaheer is facing serious crisis and is likely to take time to come to shape. Now K Srikant says ‘admit mistakes’ and Rajiv Shukla feels ̵

You are right in the below post. No idea about them. Not playing for Ranji also. I was a great fan of Pathan long back..... But later, he scored more than Sehwag and Sehwag took more wickets than I Pathan (at one stage). Both were dropped, but only Sehwag was considered.....

Cracks are there to see
by Ravi Kiran on Dec 11, 2012 02:50 PM  | Hide replies

Cracks have appeared sometime back but India being India are only seeing it now, its defo rebuilding time for INdia like Aussies have biterly found out few years back hom much ever they tried to cover up the cracks they went further apart , India is that situation particularly in bowling as the batting still has class left and can tear apart attacks when they get back to form..

good that you mentioned the australian team...

after so many years of Shane Warne's and Adam Gilchrist's retirement, can you name one good australian spin bowler or wicketkeeper who has performed half as well as these two would have ,even when out of form??
look what has happened to their pace attack, which was once the best in the world??

Moral of the story : until and unless there are good replacements at hand, we should not force good players to retire...

I would not hesitate to say India can still win the last game and square the series, if they can put Eng under pressure by beleiving that they can cracks the English side which is full of cracks esp playing spin, dont give them the momentum, start rubbing them on the field for prolonged session they bound to come apart rather easily..my few pens

Team India will bounce out
by Bala Murali on Dec 11, 2012 02:33 PM  | Hide replies

Team India will bounce out because of

1.Poor selection. In BCCI history current selection committee is very very worst one.

2.They given chance to players who performed well in only 2 or 3 matches. What about others like Badrinath,

3.No one can give good reason for including Piyush Chawla in Indian team..what kind of selection committee.

4.What about Badrinath or Balaji or Manoj Tiwary or Irfan Pathan or Suresh Raina etc they are more capable players when comparing to Awana or Jadeja or Piyush chawla...
