Ganguly's remark on Laxman was really spot on. Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly and Kumble were all great ambassadors of Indian cricket. Each had their own unique strength. One person's weakness was complimented by another's strength. Laxman's overall career may have had its highs and lows. But, the epic 281 he made is for sure a game changer for Indian cricket. A barrier was broken and after that, so many Indian cricketers (even Sachin and Dravid and Sehwag) started making big scores only after this innings. He set the stage for the leap Indian cricket experienced at that time. I also feel good to see the young stars emerging. Hats off to the seniors for all your contributions. Good luck to the next gen. Continue the Legacy
No doubt, whatever others say, he is a special cricketer and his place can never be filled by anyone. Ask Australians, they will tell you how difficult it was for them to bowl to him. Even the PM of Australia takes a break to watch Laxman playing. Such was the beauty of this elegant player. We will miss you, VVS. You can always train youngsters and make them stronger against pace bowling.

I wish to remind our fellow Indians that VVS was selected, dropped etc... for a very long time.
I can remember that Mohammed Azharuddin had even recommended VVS be picked etc... emphasizing his skill, talent. But, our selection in those times (late 988-1990 and in early-90s) was dominated by Bombay-wallas and ALSO WAS MORE OF VARIOUS ZONES BASED (NORTH ZONE, SOUTH, EAST, ETC)...
Atleast now, the selection team, is quite a lot professionalized and a lot of nonsense is stopped.
Had it not been for all this, my guess is that, VVS could have been a much much bigger success and craze. Still, by all means, VVS has shown his great talent & tough-gritty-character with a silken touch & wonderful performances on many occassions.
From all this, ATLEAST NOW, WE (INDIANS) NEED TO LEARN ONE THING FOR SURE -- which is to always and always respect talent, class and expertise in anybody (irrespective of religion, north or south or east or west zone and irrespective of any other non-sense considerations) -- let us just be professional and treat things on merit. That's it!!! This is my humble suggestion to fellow countrymen -- so that we can all allow "excellence" to bloom and thus help our great country, India, to bloom fully and in a spectacular way!!!
