why do you put derogatory remarks against a state?

IPL is not the most important point for Kerala. It's no big deal.

I am from Gujarat BTW, but I love Kerala as a tourist and as a business place (specially Ernakulam).

its a great article...some one who lives in kerala would better understand how we are stuck between the communist past and the realities of the modern era. Whatever was the price he gave tharoor&IPL could have changed the mind set of young people here ..a lost oppertunity..if it was priyan or lal or some one kerala who was at the helm it could have changed the kerala story

You should live in different part of India and come back to Kerala to know how good is the place. What is development? Shave off all forests and set up acid factories and nuclear plants. Now itself rivers are polluted and 90% sand is taken off from river bed. I see lots of peace in the mind of typical middle or lower class people who are the majority. Only those greed guys cry for excess developments. No doubt it would become satan's own country

A Note To Dr Tharoor
by Vivek Chandrasekhar on Sep 20, 2011 10:55 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Dr Tharoor,

It is a pity that your opinions or comments reach no sane ears in a nation steeped in poverty, corruption and self interest. Sad but true, the biggest mistake in your career is that you decided to return to India. There is only a handful of people who can relate to your qualifications, arguments or rationale for those thoughts. Had you stayed on in the US, I am sure you would have been doing something more worthwhile for yourself and for the world around you . As you can see from the comments board, people have conveniently mixed your personal life and professional life. If your real intention is to continue in India and do something socialy relevant , you will perhaps be better off doing your own social venture and making real change at the grassroots level. I am sure, with your clout, it should be easy for you to bring together the initial capital and resources, then your imagination can power your ambitious ideas. No lethargic and self interested administrators would want to have a piece in a non profit entity ! And you will leave a legacy of positive social change.

Sincerely,
A disillusioned citizen

IPL Is a Much Lesser EVIL than Poverty-Producing Lazy Test???
by Ding Dong on Sep 20, 2011 10:15 PM  | Hide replies

IPL Is a Much Lesser EVIL than Poverty-Producing Lazy Test Cricket , Right Folks???The Time-wasting
Test Cricket, 3 Day Crciket, etc was invented by crooked British
Colonizers, like inventing Mahatma gandhee, the british double agent
and non-violence to make People of Colonies
Lazy&Morrons&vegtables and POOR Forever. The ODI matches and
T20 match provided thrilling Cricket Unlike the Monotonous and Time
Wasting TEST CRICKET which has wsted Millions of man or woman hours of
our country and MADE US POORER too and this wastage of millions of
working hours has been happending for the past 50 years and MORE and
that is why we indians are 50 years behind China which does NOT have
this anti-national time-westing game of TEST CRICKET. What a shame that
patriotic citizens and leaders have NOT BANNED such a time-wasting game
as TEST CRICKET and NOT enacted the law which states that ONLY ODI or
short versions oc criket macthes MUST be played ONLY During Week-ends or
Holidays so that our country does NOT become another african poor
nation sooner or later. May be Anna Hazare and Patriots and
RSS&BJP&VHP cadres MUST maka National Agitation to BAN TESCT
CRicket Forever too.

by kalyan krishnan on Sep 20, 2011 10:07 PM  | Hide replies

Well Shashi Thaoor / Sunanda Tharoor have made money. That's enough. Whether the Kochi team survives or not, it does not matter to Tharoor. His pocket is full now.

This was his Prenuptial Agreement he signed with Sunanda Pushkar. This is his Third Marriage, so he has vision as well as experience. I am very glad that Shashi the Khashi didn't get the UN Secretary General post, he proved himself he is one of those crooks who hasn't changed at all despite being away from India for a long time. Corruption runs in the blood.

Narrow minded kerala & its people
by Seeni Mohamed on Sep 20, 2011 09:43 PM  | Hide replies

I dont think kerala can come up with miracles as long as they have narrowmindedness. Other states flourish not only in cricket but in all spectrums. Look at your neighbouring tamilnadu, they open their borders and provide equal opportunity of growth to everyone. But you people go there for survival, education, job and earn everything and you stab at their back at each and every opportunity. How can you people grow. Never. See the case of Delhi, one keralite came principal secretary to PM and suddenly all the important positions in the government are being occupied by a malayalee. Because you dont like to be with others. Keralites are one kind of plant who can only grow on a land which is conductive to them. So they feel if they are surrounded by keralites they are safe and try to systematically remove others or bring keralites to be around them. If this is the case, imagine the future of outsiders in kerala. They will be suffocated to death. Remember even keralites who earned money from gulf are not interested in investing in kerala then how outsiders can be expected of that. Open your doors with genuine interest, give full support, protection and opportunity to everyone who comes at your door. Give multiculturalism a chance. Any state that strives for the protection of homogeneous identity at any cost is doomed to death. Kerala cannot be an exemption.

please do not generalise, words such as narrowmindness is too sweeping to say the least.Right from Kalyan silks to the Bhima jewellery, there is a long list of non malayalee business in that state. Not to forget, today's 'branded' colleges are what they are in karnataka and TN to a large extent because of the capitation fee given by the students of that state,in the 80s and early 90s.
Request you to kindly refrain from opinions that can be applied to any community for that matter.

I just wanna stress that overprotectionism will not help anyone and i seriously doubt that this must have contributed to the demise of KTK IPL team. I still remember a keralite commenting live on air after a match won by KTK, how can we call it as Kochi team when we dont have all the playing 11 from kerala. IPL is a celebration of cricketing talent from all around the world. Every other team took pride in its achievement regardless of the mix of playing 11. If this is not narrowmindedness, I dont know how to term it... Im sorry about that...

A good attempt gone futile
by Varoon Madhavan on Sep 20, 2011 09:20 PM

One can forever criticize politicians of having vested interests in every initiative they take, but honestly, Kerala youth need a break from ideologies, lack of adequate higher education bases, and above all the booz culture...IPL could have been a positive distraction and investors could have also benefitted to tap this market as first time movers...Mr.Tharoor tried for mallu pride...but popular support will detrmine how long it takes and what route does the Kerala youth take to leave its mark on 21st century development in India...cut the personal biases and your article is a good reflection...
