Its mean to call them parochial. Cricket was played in major cities then. So mostly players form those cities selected. It all staretd to change in late seventies ,early eighties Kapil came in 1979 i guess pak tour..Till then mlastly Mumbai, Karnataka or Delhi will share team ..couple of members from otehr places like one from tamilnadu one from badoda etc etc ...Cricket itslef spread at that time and quota syatem being implemented so we see players from all regions nowadays...

Since the time of Indias debut as a Test team the selection of teams were never fair.Eg.Lala Amarnath scored a century on his debut.But sent back home on disceplanry grounds by the captian who was a maharaja of some tiny state.Look how B.K.Kunderan was treated .He had to make way for FM Engineer of Bombay.Read about Kunderan in Ciricc or wekipedia.He was a stylish Sehwag
nilesh kulkarni episode - nothing new in it. all Mumbaikars promoted fellow mumbaikars without merit. you had sunny gavaskar promoting suru nayaks & raju kulkarnis & you had waadekar promoting sudhir nayak.
saurav ganguly was the only captain who promoted merit. harbhajan , yuvraj , gambhir all came up during his tenure. dada deserved much more . he came in too late & quit too early. he still has lots of cricket left in him.

Dada didnt come late or anything..He was good player but yeah he was eccentric,whimsical captain.

have ur facts right. dada was member of the team which toured australia in 1991. but he got into playing eleven only in 1996. he was the man who brought aggression in indian team unlike Sachin who was a meek squeek.

Hahaha..dada was instrumental in bringing useless deepdasgupta and they even tried sick Rohan gavaskar..I remember watching the Indian cricket team which looked like mumbai ranji team(8 from Mumbai) and later it was Bangalore team with useless Bharadwaj,David Johnson,sujith somasundar

sachin a captain who led by example (aus series in 99) however a captain is as good as his team...look at ponting would he have suceeded without hayden, warne,mcgrath,gilchrist...

we don't need hayden, warne, mcgrath, gilchrist.. we can aswell do with ashwin, yadav, rahane n kohli.. if u r looking at winning matches.
Some Anti Sachin people is saying he is bad captain. My question is tell me guys in IPL performance as Captain for MI. If any captain is got good team and support any body can win the game. If our captain is Sreesanth also. Actually that time India have good coach and good captain. Kapil and Saching. The legents of Indian Cricket. How ever they mange to win some matches even though they got poor team. If the same team Dhoni got what will happen. Am i right? Manoj

IPL is a good example. Change of captaincy got them CL. Till then come pressure conditions, the team followed the captain.

ur right. but team should also good. then captain only captain can able to give valuable suggestions. Recommended players are not good for team and captain.

No dude. You are completely wrong. A guy has to be captaincy material first. Then the team has to have the talent to be able to execute the plans or do as the captain or the collective decision. Also captain has to be able to empower the players to bring out their best. You are doing directed research and drawing snippets of facts to fit into your pre determined conclusion.
