Suddenly, I am seeing too frequent use of Down Under for Australia. In last couple of articles from Rediff, the word "Australia" is more or less completely replaced by "Down Under" - looks very much intentional - but not sure why.
Looks like rediff has suddenly got obsessed with this word.

Next time you hear the word Kiwis, or Poms, or "The land of the rising Sun", "Iron Man of India" or the "financial capital of India" etc., protest with the same vigour...
My selection for Indian Team's playing 11 against Australia as follows: 1.Sehwag 2.Gambir 3.Dravid 4.Sachin 5.Laxman 6.Kohli 7.Dhoni 8.Ashwin 9.Zaheer / Yadav 10.Varun Aaron 11.Ishant Sharma
P.S.Aaron and Umesh Yadav will trouble the Middle and lower batting order as they both are consistently clocking 140 /kmp.We need these kind of bowlers in Australian conditions.

hanumanji, excellent alternative for the 9th position..we now onwards should see zaheer with microscopic lens..
he has got the action of a spinner but has the heart of an aggressive fast bowler..being a typical punjabi, he always confronts players with his physical and verbal approaches rather than showing it in action on the field..may be his supporters thought it is this quality that is needed against aus. but, typically we have seen all over the world that performance on the field speaks more than non cricketing gestures...let him take rest for a while and being a typical punjabi, he will come back with vengeance..remember bedi being a punjabi still used his mind to outwit the batsmen and not through verbals or physical contacts...

good spirit..we can do that and we have to be relentlessly aggressive..common india, get the heads of aussies..

Mr. Duplicate Ponting...Aussies are good against pacers...Two pacers will do for them...Shane Warne was key for Aus success in Australia other than McGrath...moreover at present we have variety in the spin dept. think n speak...

PAGAL SACHIN KO KYU LIYA, NEITHER HE IS MATCH SAVER OR MATCH WINNER. HE IS WASTING HIS TIME AS WELL AS TALENT OF YOUNG CRICKETERS IF SACHIN HITS 100TH. CENTURY THAT MAY BE CONVERT IN TO HIS FARWELL PARTY TO SAY GOOD BY INDIAN CRICKET., THAT IS WHY HE IS NOT GOING FOR 100 PURPOSLY. EVEN K. SHRIKANT WANTS TO DO BY HIM AT THE EARLIEST, BECAUSE ELIGEBLE CANDIDATES ARE WAITING ON BENCH TO GO SACHIN. HE IS GOING TO PLAY ANATHER 50 TEST MATCHES TO CLMPLETE HIS 100TH. CENTURY. HE IS WAISTING YOUNG TALENT WHICH IS WAITING ON BENCH OF HIS GOING. I THINK SACHIN IS WAITING HIS SON ARJUN TO TAKE HIS PLACE

raghava, nambathu puliyora dodhyonam madhiri irukkuda...keezha oru vadakathi kaminatti thitran paaru..better to pick 3 or even 4 fast bowlers in the playing 11..

i have justified why did i pick two spinners & two pacers...these guys commented badly about my list as they wanted to write something here..they are good for nothing...ask them to give technical comment against my views..till such time, i dont bother..i accept my mistakes if given so..

sometimes, one needs to control ones emotions when reacting to ones views..aaj kal hindi's influence has reached far down the south, saouth indian walonko bhi maloom ho jata hai ki aap kya baat kar rahe hai..so, lets be moderate in our responses and tackle the arguments in constructive way..

well, gone are the days when batsmen used to struggle against spinners in any pitches..these days, they have become aggressive against spinners thereby upsetting their rhythm..we are playing aussies in aussies, not so spinner friendly grounds..may be i would prefer ur two spinners for the SCG..but not in other grounds...

fine..how Shane Warne took even in AUS pitches?? was he not playing even in pacy tracks?? what if our pacers are hit like anything?? they have some aggressive/hitters on their side....

to my view, there is only one spinner in this entire century who can be called a spinner and that is shane warne...and pls dont compare shane with our spinners...

I am surprice to hear from u that Australian are not a good player of spin. If you look the previous record of any team of the world, it is only the Australia who can play well in any kind of surface and looking by the previous record in Australia and also the pitch and the condition, I do not think any team in the world dare to play with only two pacers in Australian pitch. If you see the selection of the team, you clearly understand why there are pace battery . And the last but not the least, tell me any example of the last ten years matches that were played in Australia where any team gambled with only two pacers and If you can not play with three pacers in Australian pitch, there is no place inthe world for the pacers!
Re: Re: Re: Re: My playing 11 for Australia!
by raghavadesikan on Nov 29, 2011 10:25 AM
pls see, i have not missed two more pacers in the team..if we require only one spin, who will play in Aus.. Ojha or Ashwin? if Ashwin fails, Ojha will also fail..then why we require spin for Aus tour?
Well bhajji has been under performing since last 3-4 years and should have been replaced earlier. He was lucky to play in the world cup looking at his form. He has lost the typical off spinners flight and variation and has become a middle and leg stump bowler. I feel if ashwin was picked for england ahead of harbhajan then he would have made a difference to the test series. his variations are still a novelty in world cricket and should be taken advantage off. Bhajji i feel is a over rated bowler have seldom seen him bowling the batsmen through the gate which is an off spinners deligth. Good that bhajji has been shown the door. If he wants to come back he should perform at ranji trophy level and come back. His batting has actually saved his place in the team wherein he has performed exceptionally well when least expected off him. But his main job is to deliver with the ball which he is not doing
Re: No Place for Bhajji
by jaskaransingh on Nov 29, 2011 09:38 AM
i think vedika has underestimated bhajji ashwin is new there fore no bobdy can read him once the batsmen begain reading him he is caroomboard player not a bowler.
Re: No Place for Bhajji
by RAJU CHAVAN on Nov 29, 2011 09:49 AM
AT ONE PLACE BHAJJI IS SUFFERING AND ANOTHER SIDE SACHIN IS ENJOYING NEITHER MATCH SAVING AND MATCH WINNING
Re: No Place for Bhajji
by raghavadesikan on Nov 29, 2011 10:00 AM
u r right! Ashwin is a composed player not just a bowler..he thinks & does his job...i think Ashwin is far ahead than any other thinking bowlers who are playing currently..
Looks like the author of this article is confused between Melbourne and Sydney on which one being favours spin. Traditionally, Sydney faours spin and Melbourne for fast bowlers.
Re: Re: Melborne - 2 spinners?
by punter ponting on Nov 29, 2011 10:08 AM
well, right said but sydney has a bounce and pace than any wicket in india too...
