Yuvi past it ?
by chatter on Nov 19, 2011 04:41 AM

Watching Yuvraj bat against the Windies pacers makes one wonder if he is now past it at the Test match level. It was not just for his failing to get runs that he needed to be dropped, it was because of the way he played. Against sheer pace, he seemed all at sea. Maybe, most unfortunately, the time has come for everyone to realise that Yuvi will never play test cricket for India. Particularly when there are alternatives like Kohli, Sharma, Tiwary and Pujara waiting in the wings

Yuvi is not tecnically and tempramentally a test player yet
by anand pathak on Nov 19, 2011 01:31 AM  | Hide replies

He requires to learn and prove his worth yet.
Sheer talent for hard hitting is not sufficient.
Look at him often groping for the ball and unsure of his position and posture.
look at his bat going far ahead of his foot.
needs to work up a solid technique. He can if he wants to.

Why is it that it needed explanation ?
by Nikhil Shah on Nov 19, 2011 01:05 AM  | Hide replies

Yuvraj and Raina should have never been considered for Tests. Badrinath also was a bit too late, but in the case of Yuvraj and Raina, they were always in the wrong format.

Test cricket requires concentration, application, patience and temperament. The hit and giggle approach is simply too unapplicable for Tests.

Let us take the current talent in domestic FC. Rohit Sharma averaging 63.51 as compared to Yuvraj with an FC average of 44 ? The difference is too big for Yuvraj to be considered.

Waiting in the wings are Rahane with an FC average of 69.11, Manoj Tiwari with an FC average of 56 and Pujara with an FC average of 55.

With Dravid, Sachin and Laxman reaching close to retirement there will a sudden drop in batting strength if Rohit Sharma, Tiwari and Pujara are not gradually phased into the side.

A combination of injuries and resting them should give the new comers intermittent chances

rohit surprise selection.
by vinay on Nov 19, 2011 12:20 AM  | Hide replies

although yuv dropped is good thing. but rohit selection is also not good. there r many other deserving players. manish pandey has just got double century. then there is pujara who has been prolific scorer. however, rohit has been given many chances but he has been a failure. in odi also. just t20 player not fit for test ckt.

Rahane is better than Rohit for sure. But lets Give Rohit a final chance.

Exactly. Rohit ia lso technically not good. His front foot will not come forward and has the tendency to play form the crease. Selectors should go for Pujara if they want to win the test matches in Australia.

Very true. Rohit not only lacks technique (But he is not a sehwag either), but also the attitude to be a member of the Indian team on a long term basis. His fielding nothing exceptional either. He is another guy like Yuvi and Zak who doesn't listen to the coach and their lifestyle too big for them rather than cricket. Though Raina is much better in terms of attitude, he is a misfit for Test Cricket. Pujara was showing promise but injured himself playing the lucarative IPL and in the process missed out on a valuable chance to be part of Indian team. Hw will given chance in the future for sure. While Kohli and Pujara are definite long term prospects for India and famous trio of SRT, RD and VVS retire, Manish Pandey needs to be tried and tested now itself. Guess, even though he is selected the final 11 will include only Kohli as he is lot more reliable.

yuv needs to b dropped as can b seen from his poor stats in test. there r many youngsters competent to play test ckt. however, rohit is overhyped cktr.

another thing is abt bhajji. he is dropped n ashwin has got chance n gave good contribution for the win.

Yuvi dropped.
by Kersie Madon on Nov 18, 2011 10:23 PM

Its good competition. If Yuvi is dropped, he won't take his place in the squad for granted & will perform well, if he's serious to get in the test team again. He's a class player & shouldn't take the dropping as something perminant. W.I. are a low team & its good to try a youngster. If new commers are serious, they'll take their inclusion in the side as a great opportunity to be selected again. We can't afford too many failures by a cricketer. Competition is plenty today & every cricketer should take his performance seriously.
