It is quite unfair to persist with the same tested players. Rohit Sharma has lot of potential but he is a careless player a la Yousuf Pathan. The irony is that when given an opportunity at the bigger platform, they fail to perform consistently & eventually get dropped. Again they would go back to domestic circuit & perform well enough to get selected. And the cycle continues.
It is better to try players like Saurav Tiwary who have not been given enough chances like the Rohits & Yousufs.
Rohit Sharma in this IPL was simply amazing at the start of the tournament. I reckon he is the next Sachin for India. He has a fabulous range of strokes, orthodox and unorthodox. He missed out a berth in the Indian team for the WC by a whisker. To me, he is a classy batsman with an excellent temperament, but has been very very unlucky to have not made it so BIG till now. If given timely chances he would come good BIG TIME. Are you'll listening Selectors?

What a bad comparison? Sachin is a legend and this guy is useless but good advertiser and everyone knows he will fail again but next year have an article like this and come in to team and will again fails.
He is not going to prove anything. He must have been omitted. He is only an average player with below average performance most of the times. It is high time that the selector Srikanth needs to be rested for ever.
Rohit is being tried in the wrong foramt. He will make a good test match player. Unfortunately he had some success in the 20 20 format and pepople billed him as a T20 specialist. You should look at the technic and the type of shots shots the player plays - not just the number on the scoreboard. They will keep trying him in the ODIs and he will always have moderate success. They will never try him in test matches because he fails in ODIs and his career will end without ever having a decent chance in test matches. In fact this happens with many players. Sreesanth is better suited for test matches and they try him in ODIs. He fails and they remove him from test team also. Munaf is a good ODI bowler. They will try him in test matches based on his success in ODIs. He will only have moderate success and they will remove him from ODIs also in the name of 'poor form' - mind you that was in the test match format.

weather it is test match or ODI, shot selection is key factor. rohit looks good in techniq but its useless if u cant prove at international level even after getting so many chances. its not mistake of other talented players like M tiwari, S tiwari, M pandey, Raydu etc. BTW its completely illogical that a test batsman cant be successful in ODI. Rohit has all the orthodox shot but he has good hitting ability so its his fault only that he could not do well at ODI level.

Why to give so much of importance to a below average player? If he fails in Test match also, then i think you will ask to find new format of game and try this guy or what? I think its time to move from this guy and try other players.

Yeah...well said Santhosh! They could have selected him for WI test team but they didn't. You are right..their critria for choosing player in different format is funny! What is Saha doing in the team? On what bases he's chosen for ODI's? Raydu was doing much better in domestic cricket enough to earn him ODI call! They even ignored him when Gambhir and Yuvi got out due to injuries!

Naveen, I beg to differ. Saha is selected as a backup Wicket Keeper. Rayudu: 1. Not a Regular WK to be selected as a WK. Note Regular. 2. Yes, he kept wickets during IPL but that is just 20-20, it is difficult to do WK for 50 overs. One missed catch or stumping, then the match is lost. 3. If you consider IPL performance, then are other players like Uttappa, Paul Valthathy,..waiting in the wings.
too many third rate players , murali, sharma, badri, mukund, rayudu, manish, ajinkya, all vyig to win a pemanent spot in the indian team. who will win it ?amon gbowlers too rp, vinay, aswin , pragyan, etc . who will win ?..cricket is such an inconsistent game , some day they do well sometimes no. at least 40% success is needed in battng and a wicket in 50 runs in bowling, in the last 3 years must be must be the real count for selction. never a greehorn like paul valthatty.

Rohit has not even proved himself 20% in his career. He is a very inconsistent batsman. You can't call all the players as a "Third rate". They have proved themselves better than Rohit. Rohit has been given enough opportunity and he didn't get going well. it is bad to talk about luck here but talent matters.
