Other teams should win next IPL
by Robert Joseph on May 29, 2011 06:42 PM  | Hide replies

Being CSK im delighted that CSK won, but I think Kolkata should have made it to the Finals and won the cup. They were only team who were playing consistently good cricket. They played as a team.

Bangalore without Gayle suck!.
Mumbai peaked too sooon and lost the momentum.

if mumbai captain is another person and tendulkar bats it must have a IPL cup already. All mumbai semi finals matches failed due to improper planning. Even i am CSK fan i would like to see yesterday match wit tough fight. but rcb let a one sided match which is not interesting in T20 match. I hope ambani will change the captain to get a IPL trophy. Tendulkar is Master in Batting and student in captainship.agree or no guys

Lucky dhoni
by ASHISH KUMAR on May 29, 2011 05:20 PM  | Hide replies

(Yes I give 5% credit to captaincy, nothing more that).
This captaincy hype is only practiced in India mainly created by media for ordinary player like ganguly/dhoni .
People say Pakistan won 2008 T-20 wcup (not the Yunus khan), England won 2010 T-20 wcup (Not collingwood), Australia won 1999/2003/2007 ODI wcup (not ponting).
But here captaincy obsessed fans like u quote- Dhoni won 2007 T-20 Wcup, dhoni won 2011ODI Wcup, Dhoni won IPL. etc etc

Fact remains India won 2007 T-20 wcup & 2011 ODI cup, CSK won IPL ( Its not won by dhoni but won by team).

Yes if captain himself is player of tournament or best batsman or bowler of the side- he deserve that extra credit.

Unfortunately dhoni has never done it in past with his bat (highest scorer or player of tournament) in any tournament his team won.
If dhoni had capability to win wcup just based on captaincy- India coudldn't have been out in 1st round of 2008 T-20 wcup, 1st round of 2010 T-20 wcup, 1st round of 2009 Championship cup by loosing all matches & loosing ODI series against SA in SA & loosing 2 ODI series against Australia in home condition.

That shows balance of the team, form of key player, pitch condition & type of opposition decide outcome of the match & captaincy play maximum up to 5% role in any win.
Yes captain like Kapil dev, Imran khan, Shane warne, Gilcrist, Ponting etc deserve extra credit because they were best performer of the s

Yes captain like Kapil dev, Imran khan, Shane warne, Gilcrist, Ponting etc deserve extra credit because they were best performer of the side also when their team won the tournaments.

Now see another example of value of captaincy.
Collingwood was captain of last year 2010 T-20 wcup, which england won . ( In fact England was undefeated in entire tournament & made world record of winning nine consecutive T-20 international matches under collingwood captaincy).
But collingwood is now dropped from t-20 squad as he is not performing as a player. I mean you can't continue in team in name of captaincy if not performing with bat (even if your team is winning under your captaincy). This is based on logic that any captain is as good as his team & hence one need to earn his place as a player first)

Point here is IPL-4 final Vijay/Ashwin/Jakati deserve 95% credit & great captain dhoni deserve 5%.
But I believe you want me to give 95% credit to dhoni & balance 5% to players for the win. (Which I don't agree).

To be fair - I beliver captainship has 50% of impact and bal 50% by the whole team. In papers Mumbai Indians is the strongest team in IPL, infact mighty MI. But becuase of lack of timely decision or lack of efficient captain made them loose ipl titles consecutively.
But with limited players Dhoni made them play and won the 2 ipl titles so far and a Championship title as well. CSK never equal to MI in terms of paper, but they won consecutively.
I believe captainship and leadership gives inspiration to others and that give a boost to play well. Rest of the Team believed on Dhoni and did well. In India so far we had only 3 captians like that is Kapil Dev, Azharuddin and Dhoni. Ofcourse Ganguly is good Captain but not a great or inspiring leader.

Y INDIA SUPER FLOP SHOW IN 2nd ICIC T2O. WORST OR GREAT DEPENDS ON TEAM'S PERFORMANCE. IF TEAM WINS, HE WILL BECOME GREAT CAPTAIN, IF IT LOST, HE WILL BECOME WORST CAPTAIN. CAPTAINCY IS NOT PERMANET. IT CHANGES ACCORDING TO SITUATION. WHAT ABOUT GANGULY OR PUNTER. THEY PROVED AS GREAT AND WORST CAPTAIN.

Sinecure Gavaskar
by vikadakavi on May 29, 2011 04:15 PM  | Hide replies

A TV news report has said that Gavaskar has called for dropping senior players for deciding to rest and that players should choose between IPL and the country.

Isn't it funny that this sinecure wanted BCCI to pay him Rs.15 crores for doing NOTHING sitting in the governing council of IPL, but closes his eyes like a patriotic saint and has a dig at players for choosing IPL over the country?

Mr. Gavaskar, if your bottom is burning, please take curd rice from Chennai, do not sermonize to the current crop of senior players who have given their everything to bring much more laurels to the country in the last 3-5 years compared to what you as an individual and as captain could achieve in your life time.

As an ordinary cricket fan, I find nothing, absolutely nothing wrong if players like Dhoni, Sachin, Zaheer and even the likes of Harbhajan, Yuvraj etc. prefer to play in IPL and then take rest for the West Indies tour. The present WI team is an ordinary team and our young brigade will get a good overseas playing experience and are also competent to give a good account of themselves in the Carribean.

By the way, can the Indian cricket fan know what have you contributed to moulding, nurturing and mentoring young Indian players after you retired from playing? Why don't you offer to BCCI your FREE services to coach budding cricketers? (Anyway, nobody would like you to coach the senior Indian team, who can be spoiled by your defensive, dreary and dull kind of cricket.)

Since Gavaskar no longer plays he is speaking against the players.
If cricketers are dangled Rs.50 lakhs per IPL match by BCCI itself and expect Cricketers to play saints and prefer inconsequential ODI's against bottom ranked teams then it would be called height of stupidity on the part of Gavaskar.

There is nothing called country team. BCCI is also a private club recognized by the ICC.
So it is ALL private clubs. Talking about the 'Country' team is pure n0nsense...
