IPL
by Balakrishnan Natarajan on May 29, 2011 07:57 PM

After reading many posts in Rediff containing straight regional fight, I think it would be nice if they start franchising or naming the teams without bringing in any regional barriers. Supporters will be left only with their favorite players but not the favorite region. Even though Chennai won, there is nothing to do with tamils and TN. It is team of individuals from all over India along with international players from other countries. I dont really understand why unnecessarily regional thoughts are coming into supporters mind. Is it just because of the fact that Super Kings is named with Chennai? Forgot about all these thinks folks and appreciate the Indian players who did well in this IPL. This is good format to bring out lot of fresh talent from India. Now selectors cannot be too much biased on their own regional favoritism. Let's start cheering India for WI tour.

Deserving winners
by NARASIMHA RAO on May 29, 2011 07:10 PM

People who say that CSK was just lucky to win the toss and so won the final forget that out of four matches that CSK & RCB played against each other in IPL-4,CSK won three times. Is three out of four not a fair reflection of the superiority of CSK?

Unpatrotic Lot
by arul m on May 29, 2011 06:13 PM  | Hide replies

I am writing this after getting throughly tired of watching all the "experts" of every news channel and cricket portals and their faithfuls parroting saying how IPL is a waste of time and how stupid to have it at all.
IPL is an Indian Tournament, which gives a lot of opportunities to young indian players and treats them to international experience. Imagine a guy like Vijay playing alongside Hayden or Hussey, or Some other youngster with Tendulkar or with Sangakara, Mahila or Gayle, they can learn a lot and improve as a player, It also helps players to earn a decent sum. Viewers also get to watch a sport they like rather than bragging about ManU or Barca, who don't give a damn about india
In fact, we should thank BCCI for improving upon a concept and created such a nice league. I do not know why IPL should be looked down as compared to Playing a boring series with WI which has omitted its best players anyway. IPL is viewer friendly and good entertainment.
My Question is if all media houses and hosts hate BCCI and IPL so much why they hell they filled every day of last 52 days with IPL programs
As with any other thing, we have to degrade anything desi, and embrace any filth imports
NBA, Super Bowls are event only restricted to US but there the press does not belitte that tournaments or players, but here we have a totally unpatrotic lot who will parrot whatever your opponents want to say, shame wake up

Just Jealousy and nothing else.
No one compels anybody to watch IPL.
Most important achievement of IPL is ----Once the white people treated Indians as Coolies and took them as coolies to various countries. Now Indians pay large sums to white players who are tempted to come and play in India which they were thinking just as a land of Snakes. In fact we have made white people our coolies.
The Empire Strikes Back.

Tendulkar - Miserable captain
by siva kumar on May 29, 2011 06:12 PM

It is a pity that even after Playing under Dhoni for many years still Tendulkar has not learnt the basics of Captaincy.
When 5 matches out of 7 were won by setting the target even a hockey player will not choose bowling first after winning the toss.
Then when a bowler of the calbre of Malinga was present will any fool send a new boy to bowl the first over?
Is Harbajan a match winning batsman like Valthatty or Yousuf? Even if a hockey player is appointed as cricket captain he will not promote Harbajan to No3 spot.
Last IPL he did not allow Pollard until the 17 th over, thereby losing the final unnecessarily.
If Tendulkar was not the captain Mumbai INdians would have been IPL champions.

Blame the pitch, toss, team owner, humidity, home city support, captain and how lucky he is when compared to others
Funny you say everything other than accept the fact that men in yellow took their game to another level when it mattered and you were beaten fair and square

Toss wins the match

I wanted RCB to Win this year.. But result was visible just after the toss...
Such stadiums should not be built where toss is vital than playing cricket.

Result was visible just after Gayle's loss. Such teams should not be playing where 1 plays and rest all watches.

So that explains why Gayle was man of the match almost all the time they won and CSK had
Anirudha Srikanth,Michael Hussey,Albie Morkel,Doug Bollinger, Vijay, Raina, Wriddhiman Saha, M.S. Dhoni
as Man of the match hmmmm...nice.
Dwayne Bravo jumped up crazy to stop the six when they knew very well that it is over in the first over, that is team spirit. Remember team wins and CSK as a team won. If pitch is the key then explain how they came to finals in first edition, won the cup in Mumbai and CLt20 in South Africa. If you are arguing for arguement sake then there is no point...

MY POINT
by SRIDHAR RAGHUNATHARAO on May 29, 2011 04:01 PM  | Hide replies

Even when Gayle did not score in the qualifier clash on 24-05-2011 at Mumbai, Kohli and others built the innings to 175 and were in very comfortable position to win till 15 th over. The last five overs turned the table. In my opinion, our bowling lacked the requisite punch like CSK and the other batsman did not play to their full grit by accepting the challenge. Mithun's bowling at times were very slack and has conceded more runs than necessary. Had we batted first, the chance of winning was almost sure. Vettori's views were very logical. CSK outplayed in every aspect yesterday and they rightly deserved the win.

You got it. CSK is like the current Indian team which is like the Australian team during the 2000s that is all is need to be said. If RCB played like their semi final 1 and just learn to handle pressure the finals would have been a great game and RCB could have won.

Four locals in CSK
by Indian Saint on May 29, 2011 03:02 PM  | Hide replies

for many who criticize that CSK does not have tamils or zLocals, here is the answe. There 4 locals in the 12- and each and every one of them has won at least one man of the match award in this IPL-4. In fact, other than the recently included Bravo, each and every one has won one man of the match award. CSK is a perfect team.
