all news channels are critizing gambhir for playing for money and not for the country I would like to see the biggest critic arnab goswami give up his high paying job with times now and joining DD at a lesser salary. DD is the official channel of India so he should first give preference to India

If jounalists like Arnab Goswami & Boria Majumdar are criticizing Gambhir, ex-cricketers like Arun Lal & Atul Wasan along with Charu Sharma backed him. BCCI is a private organisation. The team selected by BCCI can also be called a private team. That it is treated like a national team is another matter [similar to erstwhile MCC team representing England]. Remember what happened in the case of Hockey - two organisations picking two national teams to represent the same country!
Aecondly, in football and other sports, it is the player who decides which team to join. In IPL, the franchisee decides whom to buy and the players has no choice there. By agreeing to such mean "auction" process, cricketers have turned themselves as slaves. Can the slaves disobey their masters?
Now, they have to face the music.

Arnab Goswami and Boria need to learn to keep their mouth shut....they are such rotor mouths...Gambhir is every bit what most of us are...dedicated and steadfast to whatever we do...his sence of duty to his franchise is indeed commendable and he did what he did as they were in sniffing distance of the IPL final...as for his national duty am sure he's hardly a fool to realise that he is indeed the bigger loser as he isnt going to get the captaincy very soon unless Dhoni goes which seems quite farfecthed

Just answer me bro..PPL go abroad to earn, does it mean they are not committed to motherland?.PPl who are silent are targeted while those who earn billions out of ads. are unscathed..These things ultimately humiliate a sincere guy like Gambhir and he may stop contributing as well. Lets not forget he has earned us T20, worldcup single handedly while all the so-called committed heros failed...

And were were you shenanigans when we won the world cup?
by Jacob Jose on May 27, 2011 09:45 PM  | Hide replies

Pity the bunch that criticizes our heros don't know what it means to win. I could hardly care if Gautham makes money from IPL or not, but I do care for the fact that he saw us through the finals against Sri Lanka.

Have some respect for our heros please.

T&R,

J

Why blame Gambhir? ShahCrookCon must have insisted that Gambhir play the match.

Now Yuvraj Singh has pulled out of WI tour. Looks like all these guys are interested only in making money (IPL) and not bothered about playing for the country.

Players wanted rested
by Mahesh Gowda on May 27, 2011 04:02 PM

Players who wanted rest should be given permanant rest from national duty. There is so much talent in the country. we are not dependent on any one single player.

IPL is created by BCCI
by Indian on May 27, 2011 03:49 PM  | Hide replies

to make more money part of which goes to Sharad Pawar and other team members of BCCI management.

BCCI has lured the players with more money to play for IPL so that more and more people watch these players and BCCI earnings multiple in the form of telecast rights, advt etc,

BCCI cannot escape its responsibilities in this case as they are keeping a big carrot like IPL in front of the players. The Franchises also spend big time money in auctions (part of which also go to BCCI) to buy good players and it is natural that they would want these players to play for them in the tourney.

Injuries are part and parcel of each game. If BCCI was so concerned about the players injuries, why they didn't make it clear before the auction that players who have level 1 & 2 contract with BCCI will play only first four-five matches in IPL? Why BCCI didn't announce the team to West Indies early and made it mandatory for all the selected players to undergo rest for 4 weeks before journey to WI begins?

It's as clear as daylight that BCCI is exploiting the cricketers to earn their money. It is run by a bunch of jokers who don't finch an eyelid before telling the court that the cricketers don't play for the country but for BCCI. This BCCI has the audacity to stop sending a cricket team for Asian Games.

Therefore this issue is actually a non-issue. Nobody can question the commitment of the cricketers. If someone is doing it, he is an idiot. It is time to question BCCI

You have hit the nail on its head. Unfortunately, heads of BCCI office bearers are made of Ambuja cement. So, nothing penetrates. The sports ministry is such a lame duck that people like Kalmadi, Pawar, KPS Gill rule the roost. It is not other way round as it should have been. Reason is that MS GIll retires as CEC and becones sports minister. Has he any experience or wisdom with respect to sports' activities. Why people like Milkha Singh, Prakash Padukone, Kapil Dev or Michael Ferrera are not given the responsibilty to run sports affairs?
Things may change only when peopke arise and throw out incompetent stooges. We need Anna Hazares in every field.
