Need Clarification on Gayle's availability in next season
by Vasan SS on May 23, 2011 06:18 PM

What will happen if Dirk Nannes is fit to play in IPL 5?
Whether Gayle will be out of team or not?

This kind of attitude is most dangerous for international cricket.IPL is hitting at the root of cricket by encouraging players to bunk their national duty for pure commercial reasons.

Cognitive Mood:

;-)... Read below.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) dismissed Chris Gayle’s claims that he was dropped without being told, insisting that it was the devastating batsman who made himself unavailable for selection before heading off to the lucrative IPL.

WICB chief Ernest Hilaire said the Board did all it could to contact Gayle, who suffered an abdominal strain during the World Cup.

Gayle was not picked for the ongoing series against Pakistan and the batsman went on to state that his Board left him with no choice but to join IPL by not reaching out to him.

But the WICB contradicted his claims.

“We can dispel all that Chris (Gayle) said by releasing the letters and emails,” Hilaire told the ‘Line & Length Network’

“But we should not do that. You communicate with a player, you ask for his opinions, you ask for him to account on certain statements he made, you ask him what’s his position on certain things and you expect to be treated with a certain degree of confidence.

But I agree with the last line of your statement.... :)

What is wrong with the players making money?

Only film actors, businessmen should make money?

Why are people working for Reliance? Why are they buying stocks from Reliance? Mukesh Ambani is making money.

If someone is making money, there are others who are benefitted with it.
Example: If Mukesh Ambani is making money, then there are others who are getting employment.

If the cricketers are making money, then there are others who find employment (from ground staff to people working for Sports channels, newspapers, magazines, internet sites etc.)

If crickers do not make money, then there will be much more unemployment.

What I do agree is that they should not make insane amount of money which does not match their skill and quality.

Yes I agree, But still 3-4 places useless in RCB team,
1) no partner for Gayle to open
2) Kaif
3) 7th position

Captaincy and Batting are two different things

Sachin is master as far as Batting. Not much as captain

Captaincy Dhoni is the best.

You are right. (pun intended)

Dhoni has scored 40,000 odd runs and 99 international centuries in 6-7 years which Sachin Tendulkar took 20 years to amass.

Great players need not become great captains.
Great bowlers need not become great batsmen.
Great batsmen need not become great bowlers.

Check the all time great all-rounders too. Either they are better with the bat or ball.

List of great players who did not make great captains include Brian Lara, Inzimama Ul Haq, Shaun Pollock, all the all time contemporary greats.

I'm not sure if anyone can break or even come close to what Sachin Tendulkar has achieved in my lifetime.

navin you are right (pun intended)

probably nobody will ever break his statistical record. nobody will also ever break the record that despite playing for more than 2 decades he has not been a match winner. and other players who have played far less than him have achieved much more than him in terms of winning matches for india, inspiring others to give their best, always have a winning attitude, never lose your cool and be positive in worst possible situations, to fight till the last...

yeah, sachin plays only to amass runs and not victory. best example is even playing ipl he is doing the same. see for the entire ipl career he is running after the orange cap and doesn't even care for how many times mumbai have won ipl. i guess sachin doesn't make a good team player after all....

i am surprised you think dhoni will not achieve even 1/10th of what ponting did from 2003 to 2010. but then again i must not be surprised. i must also consider the fact that you are cricket-illiterate and therefore it is no surprise that you voice such an opinion...:)

BTW if you remember pseudo i had already accepted far back that dhoni will never be as good a captain as ponting. if you remember in the distant past i DID agree that dhoni will not achieve as much as ponting did. remember i had said even then that to be as good as ponting dhoni will have to lose 4 consecutive series like ponting did against england, SA (away and home) and india. if you remember pseudo i had already conceded even then that for dhoni to lose 4 consecutive series is a tough ask. you may even have saved that post...:)

BTW i would also like to point you ponting's power of positive thinking. remember after losing the earlier ashes series how ponting had become nervous and frightened and insecure? did he not then say that after the next ashes series he might be out of job. pseudo, ponting's worst fears did come true. see the power of positive thinking by ponting?...:)

BTW i would also like you to remember what ponting ''achieved'' against dhoni. 4 tests and 4 losses against dhoni and his team india...:)

Boss.. Brian Lara and Shaun pollock were 100 times better captain than Sachin...
Sachin's records are only results of longevity and not quality....Just like Muralidharan is not considered as the greatest bowler of all time, sachin is also not the greatest batsman..he is a records collector not a team player or a match winner let alone even a substandard captain...as some one once wrote about sachin, he is a disaster walking around in captains role..lol

Dhoni got some "records" under his name just because he is playing for the last 7-8 years.... Even Amol Parikh from Bandra could have achieved that IF only he played for 7 years and was made the captain of the Indian team... ;-)

ha ha ha... you never ever tire of showing your cricket ignorance do you pseudo?..:)

comparing stats of players who open the innings like gayle and sachin with somebody like dhoni who comes most of the times at no. 5 or even lower....:)

btw pseudo even coming at so low down the batting order dhoni has scored almost 350 runs with strike rate of 158. compare that with sachin who opens always yet what is his strike rate this ipl? only marginally above 100 even after he gets the enormous advantage of opening the innings. as you rightly pointed out even gayle is much much better than sachin. gayle joined the ipl late and even then has overtaken sachin in aggregate and strike rate. good observation by you, dude...:)

pseudo u know how much we all love your posts and eagerly await when you come online. your insistence on showing your cricket knowledge (or rather the lack of it) is a constant source of amusement for all of us. pseudo you never miss a single opportunity to show your (lack of)cricket knowledge and we all love your for it...:)

Wicket Keeper
by HS Nair on May 23, 2011 12:38 PM  | Hide replies

There are no points for the wicket keeping !
And also for the fielding
There should also be points for Capataincy
All these add value to the player.
Eg: MS Dhoni's value increases being wicket keeper and capatain, which is not reflected in your analysis

Good point. Even Sachin's value increases as the captaincy points are not reflected in the analysis.

Also, along with Wicket keeper points, a fielder's points should also be included, as Sachin saved many runs in the field and took many catches.... None of it adds up in his points....

So you are right... Dhoni and Sachin should be placed higher than Gayle and Valthaty... :)
