Re: Re: GAYLE at 1st place & POLLORD at last place.

polard has done nothing in this IPL..so he deserves that last place.
Gayle is in good form. He is junior Viv Richards. Malinga controls the batsmen. His bowling appears like throwing the ball (that is why the ball goes directly towards the stumps - experienced batsmen find it difficult to get runs off Malinga - either it will be catch or lbw). We have to see how Gayle will face Malinga. It will be interesting to watch Gayle Vs Malinga.
Its a news to me...from TOI article by Deepan Joshi: Don't underestimate the LBW law as in Bradman's time you could only be given out if the ball pitched and hit in line with the stumps and then went on to hit them. This automatically rules out the in-swinger, the in-cutter, and the off-spinning deliveries that pitch outside but come in enough to hit in line. This is as potent a weapon for the bowler as the catch or even more as you can pad up to any ball outside off and get away. The batsman also gets the advantage when he is unsure which way the ball would go as he can again pad up and nullify the in-coming as well as the out-going delivery. Bradman was out leg before just six times in his career. The argument that he was so good that he was rarely struck in front of the wicket does not hold as he was bowled 23 times.

That might very well be true, but at the same time there were no rules around number of bouncers per over, penalties on over rates, covering the wicket and preserving it like the Koh-i-noor, and body line bowling... Doug Jardine was socially and morally boo-ed hence body line didn't resurface immediately again, but there was no "technical" law against it...
dont u think above table is shit: example 1) Failed player Yusuf pathan is above malinga the start bowler...now due to good form of MI, malinga may have not batted for many games. example 2) Dhoni is above tendulkar ...see the run differnce ...
what is this MVPI /.... thats faked .... plz explain me if i have misunderstood the table
Re: ONLY due to missing Viru... otherwise Gayle is like a breeze.
by naayikunni on May 24, 2011 02:41 AM
Viru - 11 matches 424 runs Gayle - 9 matches 511 runs Viru - Average 38.54 Gayle - Average 85.16 Viru - Strike 176.66 Gayle - Strike 187.17 Viru - 1-100, 2-50 Gayle - 2-100, 2-50 Viru - 18 sixers Gayle - 38 sixers
In what sense is Viru better, even sachin is playing as he is known for(only his records. Gayle has kicked the butt out of viru. sanjay, you have eaten a humble pie and are smarting your wounds :0)
The gap between Gayle and Valthaty is about 150 points...and there are more than dozen players in the same gap of 150 points between Valthaty and others below him..that shows Gayle's dominance in IPL 4...
