Martin Crowe was one the most attractive batsmen

to watch.. he was very compact and had lot of grace in his batting. Much the similar way like the Indian Sanjay Manjrekar had - although Manjrekar was terrible under achiever

Martin the Captain

People have been talking about Martin Crowe as a batsman. Yes, he was a very good bastman of his era. What many of us dont know is his captaincy skills. During the worldcup in 1992, he was the one who has started this concept of pinch hitting in the first 15 overs. He sent Mark Greatbach, who was a typical test batsmen, to open the innings and donne the pinch hitting role in the first 15 overs. Later, it was followed by others like Sanath Jayasurya and Kaluwitherna in the 1996 world cup from where it became popular. He was the one to have started opening the bowling with a spinner (the bowler was Dipak Patel). This off late has been followed by many captains, not to forget Dhoni opening the CSK bowling with Ashwin. So, he had some really great ideas that time, which have been followed by the later generation captains.

I always thought pinch hitting was started by Srikanth and later Ian Botham.

Srikanth was not a pinch hitter as pinch Hitter is expected from a Batsman. I dont think Srikanth was a batsman..Just a Fool joker..he is showing his Skill as a Selector..

The great captaincy you are waxing eloquent about helped him and his team NZ to work magic or wonders in the odd (square, rectangular etc.) shaped small sized stadia of New Zealand and reach the semi final.

The moment his team travelled to Australia to play the semi final in normal sized stadium, his team flopped.

In my view and in the view of knowledgeable cricket fans, Stephen Fleming was the greatest ever captain NZ had in the last 30-40 years. He moulded a team of ordinary players with ordinary ability to bat, bowl and field into a force to reckon with atleast in one dayers.

Welcome and Good Luck!!!!

Martin Crowe was one of the greatest batsmen of the 80's and 90's.

I have seen him tearing Imran Khan to shreds. A devastating and attacking batsman.

I don't see anything wrong with his trying to see if a 48-yr old can bat. I wish he succeeds!

Good luck!

Dada is special

Dada is younger fitter and was really never out of active cricket. Moreover, his unmatchable leadership qualities is an added asset. Dhoni is lucky that he has the most talented side to lead unlike Ganguly. Perhaps he has very powerful adverseries in BCCI that he is inexplicably been out of team India.
