And Finally .......
by Dire Straits on Mar 15, 2011 02:02 AM  | Hide replies

Ganguly did the most unprofessional thing a captain could do. That is to break the code of conduct of the dressing room. Nothing that ever happens inside the dressing room should come out. That's the rule set up by the team management.

Ganguly, in 2005, after scoring a century against that Z grade Zimbabwe attack, came out to the media and openly leaked out that he was being asked to step down as captain by some within the team management. Why was that? Why only after scoring that century? Why not earlier? "Boohoo ... look, I'm such a hard working player. I scored a century for my team and they tried to drop me in return". Why did he play that sympathy card? Being the captain, he deliberately broke the dressing room's code of conduct for his own selfish benefit.

What's your excuse on this issue?

Dire straits, don't judge someone without understanding the details of the situation. Unless of course the aim was to demean and you just picked one reason.

Even Sachin, who is usually a mild manner guy who doesn't speak much, indirectly criticized Ganguly by saying that what happens inside the dressing room should never come out.

Even the most respect, idolized and loved person in India certified that what Ganguly did was plain unprofessional.

Again pasting what has been brainwashed to you.

It was Harsha Bhogle who asked, "were you asked to be dropped?" He said "yes", then Bhogle said why do you think you were asked. He said I do not want to think of those things and concentrate on the game.

Then he was dropped after a series win and scoring a 100. It is not true that a large section of Indian cricket adminstration ganged up against him for non cricketing reasons?

After Chappel shamed India in WC 2007 and even Sachin spoke against him do you guys still not realize that Ganguly was right?

When even Sachin spoke against Chappel, others already had even then you guys spoke against him.

When he came back to the team on his merit and scored the highest number of runs even then people spoke against him.

Common guys now everyone accepts the truth, he was a great player and captain and still you find no qualms in insulting a great?

Have some shame!!!

Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday made the sensational disclosure that he was asked to step down as captain before the start of the first Test against Zimbabwe currently on in Bulawayo.
After scoring 101 in India's first innings, Ganguly said that he was asked on the eve of the match to step down as captain.

Ganguly did not quite take Greg Chappell's name but give enough indications that it was the coach himself who wanted him to do so.

Chappell, when asked about it, said that the only thing he would share with the press is the composition the team should have in the match.

Ganguly, who left the practice session on the eve of the match for half an hour, confirmed that he did so because he was upset with this demand on him.

"Yes, it was suggested. I was under a lot of pressure," the skipper said.

WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE NOW? HE COULD HAVE EASILY SAID, "NO COMMENTS". BUT HE CHOSE TO DISCLOSE IT. THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE.

Gilchrist says the same .....
by Dire Straits on Mar 15, 2011 01:40 AM  | Hide replies

Former Australian vice-captain Adam Gilchrist has taken a swipe at the then skipper Sourav Ganguly and spinner Harbhajan Singh, suggesting that the duo had chickened out of their 2004 Nagpur Test fearing a defeat on grassy wicket.

"When I got to the middle, Ganguly was not there. Dravid was in his blazer, ready for the toss," Gilchrist wrote in his autobiography 'True colours'.

"'Where's Sourav?, I said'. Rahul couldn't answer definitively; between the lines I perceived that Sourav might have pulled out from fear of losing a home series," said Gilchrist, who was a stand-by skipper in place of an injured Ricky Ponting.

Gilchrist felt the hard green top in Nagpur could be the reason for off-spinner Harbhajan making himself unavailable for the match.

"Harbhajan was out of Nagpur Test with a 'flu', which he seemed to have contracted when he saw the grassy wicket.

"I still don't know to this day what was wrong with Ganguly and Harbhajan," said Gilchrist.

One of the most successful wicket-keepers ever, Gilchrist, who is also known for his sportsman spirit, mentioned that speculation was rife that the hard green top was a result of Ganguly's quarrel with the head of local Vidarbha Cricket Association.

"There was speculation that Sourav Ganguly was quarrelling with the head of cricket in Nagpur and a rumour that a spicy pitch might be prepared out of spite or reven

The same ganguly has played really good innings under wickets worse than that including in SA in a low scoring match when all was crumbling. Only fools like you digest the crap that idiots like gilchrist and hayden spit out to sell their books and what not. You are so silly.

Isn't it strange that you are ready to believe what those racists says, who always expected Indians to be meek losers and not our players?

Do you mean Ganguly or Harbhajan never saw a green pitch before and they cannot fall ill or get injured?

Can you not see that the Australians do not like Ganguly because the overwhelming gap between these two teams was minimized because of the team Ganguly built and because of way they attacked the Aussies in the field and outside it?

Gilchrist was anything but a sole loser or a racist. Gilchrist has been widely regarded as one of the finest gentlemen to ever play the game. And this issue has not been merely brought by these Australians. It was well known way before at that time that Ganguly chickened out of that Nagpur Test in 2004. It was a well known story back then.

Well know by whom? What is the proof? Gilchrist's behaviour in the infamous "cheater's test" in Australia was far from gentlemanly...Harbhajan had said that "Gilchrist behaves as if he is saint but he is not"

Too easy to target and castigate one of your own right buddy?

Well known across media circles. There were tons of reports back then that Ganguly chickened out. It's a not a new issue that Gilchrist and Hayden made up. You're speaking of that Sydney Test .... what wrong did Gilchrist do? He merely did the job of a wicketkeeper, and that is to appeal. That's it. The whole world knows how honest a player Gilchrist was. He was the only player who walked regardless of the umpire's decision when he knew that he was out. Not once he was caught sledging on the field.

Ganguly
by Story editor on Mar 15, 2011 01:20 AM  | Hide replies

Wisden rates Ganguly as one of top 10 ODI cricketers that have ever walked the earth. He was fastest to score 7000, 8000 and 9000 runs, faster than Sachin! Every critic says that he was a great captain and responsible for the betterment of Indian team.

He was non parochial unlike the partial captains of Mumbai and South and he backed genuine talent.

I dare people to prove with stats that 70% runs of his were scored against weaker teams and he did not play fast bowling well...those majestic drives have come against Shoaib Akhtar also!!

He was written off but he came back and became the highest scorer for India in that year...there is no way one cannot salute the attitude of the great man!

Inspite of all this is people feel he was not a great player...then such people are losers and have regional biases.

A middle finger for them!!

good to see Saurav is continuing in cricket.

He built team india after match-fixing scandal, so that we could reach in finals of 2003 World Cup.

He brought many good players in team India which are contributing good in India's success. For ex.: Ganguly introduced Sehwag in tests.

Zaheer, Bhajji, Yuvraj are plaing since Ganguly was captain and who are doing really good in WC 2011. His captaincy is good for players as he points out mistakes for improvement.

I hope he continues his attitude in Dubai as well.

Ganguly suffered from 'Greentrackitis'
by Dire Straits on Mar 15, 2011 12:22 AM  | Hide replies

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has re-opened a seven-year-old controversy by claiming that ex-India captain Sourav Ganguly and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh chickened out of the series-deciding 2004 Nagpur Test due to a fear of the green-top pitch there.

In his autobiography "Standing My Ground", Hayden writes that the Australians felt at that time that the nature of the pitch had led to the sudden withdrawal of Ganguly and Harbhajan from the Test, which the visitors eventually won to clinch a historic series win.

"The curator, a famously single-minded character with no love of the Indian hierarchy, ignored pleas to shave the deck and left a healthy covering of grass. It reminded me of Gabba (In Brisbane). To have that sort of wicket for the deciding Test of an away series - particularly in India - was the most pleasant surprise imaginable," Hayden wrote.

"When Ganguly and Harbhajan went out to see the deck a couple of days before the game, they looked like farmers inspecting crops after a hail storm. We predicted neither would play, and they did not. Ganguly withdrew with a leg-muscle injury that flared up suddenly, and Harbhajan had an even more sudden dose of food poisoning. We put their ailments down to acute cases of "greentrackitis", where you develop a severe intolerance to green wickets likely to give you nothing as a spin bowler and plenty of headaches as a batsman," wrote Hayden, who retired from international cricket in 2009.

Brian,

If you are Indian then you should be ashamed not to understand why Hayden would write something like that.

Ganguly and Harbhajan gave them back in the same coin and Aussie now do not dare to mess with Indian team.

The sissy image of Indian players was washed off because of Ganguly...

“This is an open challenge: Whenever and wherever Hayden wants me to bowl at him, I am ready. Does he have the courage to face me. Because, whenever I have seen him bat against me, he always had a petrified look.

“I have scored half century even on Australian soil. May be Hayden has this habit of conviniently forgetting the achievements of Indian cricketers,” he added.

Ganguly was more restrained in his response. “I request him to behave like an international player,” Ganguly said. “He remembered Brisbane in Nagpur. Just want to remind him of my hundred in Brisbane in the first Test. Also since 2003, we have beaten them (Australia) everytime in Brisbane. Me and Bhajji have been important part of Indian team on all those wins.”

All these Aussie players have made a habit of bashing Indian players in their autobiography...I think the reason is twofold...increasing the sales...trying to get some satisfaction by bashing them off-field which they could not do on-field...

Anything said and done.. Saurav brought the life in Indian cricket when evryone lost hope for Indian after series of losses and match fixing before he came in as captain.. He may be bad to lot many ..but today the so called punch that Indian cricket has is only for that person who made all cricketer understand they are equally important in the team.. and not like Captain Cool ( aka Fool) who not only lost his Cool by blaming his own players but also have lot his hard hitting batting skills for which he was selected first.. and for his Keeping behind stumps is something makes me laugh .. he is so bulky cannot make spot jump...With Ganguly back in the field one can see the passion of cricket once again..
