The biggest worry going into this WC in the sub-continent was chasing a total of 300 , which typically is certain defeat.
The emergence of Yuvraj as a specialist spinner who in the last 2 years has been bowling at an economy rate of 4.78 makes this attack stronger.
India can go with the spin trio of Chawla, Harbhajan and Yuvraj and prevent the possibility of chasing 300. This same trio was tried out against England but the innings of Strauss was once in a lifetime and Bell was also let off by the TV umpires.
The conditions in the sub-continent are not helpful for 3 seamers and most likely Nehra may become a backup bowler.
The final combination is:
Zaheer, Munaf, Harbhajan, Chawla and Yuvraj!
Most of us will argue that Chawla is young and inexperienced, but his googly in the sub-continent could be lethal against SA in particular which has known
The presence of Ashwin, along with off-spinners like Yusuf, Harbhajan and Sehwag loses its variety and effectiveness.
For any bowling attack to be effective, it need variety. Five of the best bowlers in the country could be a seam bowler. But then do you pick 5 seamers for the attack? No?
Because variety unsettles a batsmen and it is an important but an under-rated aspect of selecting a proper bowling attack.
Ashwin is a better spinner than Chawla, agreed, the problem is we are going with 4 off-spinners in the lineup.
There is still SA and WI matches and if India wins the group seedings it will play Pakistan in the quarters.

I agree with the sameness of the attack, but Sehwag is not bowling anymore..at least not this WC. how about ashwin, bhajji, yuvraj, Yusuf..i mean Yusuf is typically only bowling 5-6 overs.. maybe sachin can start his leg breaks again.. Chawla is young and inexpereinced..not sure he can take the pressure..

We are already having a problem with too much spin, with Zaheer and Munaf only we will bowl only 16 overs of seam and 34 overs of spins. Out of the 34, with Ashwin we will have 25 overs of off-spin!
The attacks looks very spin centric and batting lineups can used to off spin bowling. This is not very obvious to a normal fan.
I ODIs, variety, slower ones, variation in lengths and line can unsettle a batsmen -- otherwise -- a one dimensional attack is very predictable and cannon fodder.

You mental vaidya- Dhobi most political , regional, medicore & lucky captain who destroyed indian cricket. Other than fluke win in 1st T=20 wcup (there aslo his own contribution with bat was nil)- India has lost all major T-20/ODI tournament shamelesly under dhobi captaincy (out in 1st round). Only in Test India is consistent coursey all seniors sachin, dravid, laxman still playing. On performance dhobi has failed in 20 innings of last ODI/Test/T-20 & doesn't desrve a palce in team. He is continuing just on luck & politics. He is worst captain. Any other captain with this much failure must have been kicked by now but this medicore is continiung due to politiucal back up.

mental ashish kumar, if taking india to no. 1 position in all formats is being political, regional, mediocre, luck, destroying indian cricket then that is what every true indian cricket fan should want. it is better that dhoni destroys indian cricket by outting it in the top ranking in the world. it is better that dhoni does harm to indian cricket by winning more than losing.
of course i understand that you prefer that indian cricket be in good shape and win rarely and lose nearly always. i can understand that being considered a powerhouse in the international cricket scene is something to be ashamed and of and we were better when we were underdogs and not favourites to win any tournament.
is a useless player , who doesn't even deserve to be in top 30 selected initially , the problem has arised due to injury to praveen , a better replacement could have been irfan if fit or ishant or even sudeep tyagi or rp singh
