Easy to say after the event!
by Sasanka Mahapatra on Mar 02, 2011 11:31 AM  | Hide replies

When in the thick of the battle it is difficult to remember such fine words! South Africa have been notorious in this, that's why they have been called "chokers"!!!

Sasanka Mahapatra

Why are you bent upon jinxing the word "chokers" ?
people like you told , punter cannot score in india and punter left india scoring at an average of 55

stop jinxing already
This is the problem with us indians, always open our damn trap and count the chickens before they hatch

SM:

Speaking of which, didn't we witness the rare spectacle of a test match which was guaranteed to be a draw, as the batting team were 7 down and facing the last over of the test?

Do you know what did that match result in? I think it was at Sydney in 2008.. :)

Fielding?
by Jai Hind on Mar 02, 2011 11:18 AM  | Hide replies

This is the same bowling attack that drew the test series in SA and were the ODI ended 3-2 in SA's favor. Why blame the bowlers for all our problems? What about our "athletic" fielding?

South African Pitches are different from Indian Pitches. Here bowlers need to be lot careful. You can not compare Indian and SA pitches

Ha ha exactly what I am trying to say right? Why blame the bowlers? Most bowlers are going to get whacked on such pitches. Its important to improve our fielding which unfortunately is impossible to do in such short notice.

Jai Hind

you are right. The fielders are to be blamed. They are running so slow, while they should be galloping at 50-60 kmph and intercept the ball.

They should be able to jump 10 meters in the air to catch the ball

Indian fielding has never been great. There are few places where nothing can be done. In the outfield, indian fielders give away 2 runs, while the SA/ Aus counterparts normally are able to restrict to 1 run.

The Indian players are not as fast on their feet as the Sa/ Aus counterparts. There lies the problem. Before you blurt out something stup1d , think of the max speed the best indian sprinter can run and compare it with ursain bolt.

Now while such events of 2 runs cannot be avaoided in the outfield, there is nothing stopping the indian pacers from bowling yolkers and preventing the TAILENDERS for hitting them for runs , right ?

Am sorry, the entire world knows its the bowling that actually let the team down.

fielding did contribute towards the downfall, but the majority has been bowling.

AS AN INDIAN FAN I DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN EARLY,WE COULD AFFORD TO FACE AUSTRALIANS IN SEMIS OR FINAL..IF INDIA TOPS THEIR GROUP TABLE THEN THEY WILL BE FACING NEW ZEALAND,THEN REST ASSURED INDIA WOULD REACH SEMIS EASILY.....EVERYTHING WILL BECOME CLEAR ABOUT WHOSE GONNA FACE WHO IN QUARTERS IN A WEEK....

Considering the present form, Newzeland and Bangla Desh(or West Indies)will be fourth placed teams in Group A and Group B respectively.
It is still too early to comment how AUS,SL,PAK will stand in Group A and IND, ENG, SA in Group B as there is little to choose between these six teams.

Dhoni should stop politics and concentrate on winning games
He can very well continue his career in politics after stepping down as Team Indian captain

Dhoni is good in politics than as a captain of Team India.
Gautam Gambhir to be asked to shoulder the responsibility of captionship and Dhoni should be given Kongi ticket from his native place.

We need three seamers and two spinners in our squad. Every team is targetting Zaheer and Harbajaan only. It is not their fault but team combinations fault.

We should not expect anything till Dhoni in the captainship... We should kick him first.. He is good in politics.. He should be given Kongi ticket from his native place.

Just 5 ?
by krishna murugesan on Mar 02, 2011 08:42 AM  | Hide replies

Why can't India find a genuine fast bowler beyond Zaks, Sreeshant, Nehra, Munaf and Praveen Kumar. We always try to rotate between these and are at our wits end when one of them succumbs to an injury. Come on.. we have a world class MRF pace academy that has churned out greats like Brett lee, McGrath ...A billion plus strong country can definitely deserve to have a few dozen world class 'killer' pacers, don't you'll feel so?

Agree. SL & PAK have genuine fast bowlers even though all their pitches are flat. So we cannot blame the pitches. Indian fast bowlers dont have the stamina to continue (e.g Munaf,Ishant..)

The problem with Irfan is that he has turned to be a far better batsman than a bowler. India already has a lot of talented batsmen but desperately lack wicket taking bowlers. Irfan, though good, unfortunately isn't amongst them

Greg Chappel wanted Irfan to be all rounder. In some matches, Irfan was given the role of pinch hitter. In this process, he lost his bowling. Remember, how nicely he bowled at Sydney Test in 2008 claiming wickets of Steve Waugh & Gilchrist with swinging deliverlies on 3rd day evening of the match?

I don't recall Irfan picking wickets of Steve waugh in 2008.

And if he did take 2 wickets, is that the role of an all rounder ? 2 wickets and you are done ?

Maya Sharma of NDTV was commenting on the lack of demand for tickets in todays match between England and Ireland. She went on to say that all the counters were full for the last match today the only people waiting at the Counters are perhaps Englishme, Irish and DOGS. This is a ridiculous comment from a leading TV personality and speaks volume against our culture.
