only in india....salim durrani must be feeling lucky to be born in india and played for india. Does anybody know of a cricketer called Anil Dalpat in pakistan? He was a wicketkeeper batman and played in the benson and hedges world series from pakistan which india won by beating pak in the final. Would pakistan honour danish kaneria? I doubt. Its just not in their blood to be open minded and large hearted.

So what stupid buddy? He played for India, and that too very sincerely. Most of the cricketers concentrate on IPL than International Matches (for money). He never played for money. Plz see the good things in life.

This is a great interview! Salim Durrani is a genuine Indian though he claims he is Afghan! I wish that BCCI had given him a sizable amount of money for his old age.

yeah so that some amount could have gone to the talibans. Look at him played for india, got the money now and suddenly opens his mouth and says that I am an afghan. What shameless creatures this people are. would have been better without the cash.

He did not tell that he is an Afghan, but said that he was born in Afghanistan (Kabul). His Dad with family migrated to India somewhere before India's independence like many Afghanis did during those days. Without knowing anything, dont cast aspersions. HE was a world class cricketer who was a natural genius who thrilled crowds whereever he went.

What is wrong in telling that he was born in Afghanistan and raised there for early part of his years? Is it a crime to tell that?
He never said that he was a Afghani. Besides Afghanistan has always historically been a friend of India despite certain sections of people there (Taliban ones) aligning with Pakistan. Are u aware that Afghanis like India a lot, Indian films, culture, etc are adored there. Finally, Durrani in his time played with pride for India, he was the one who set up India's first ever win ag West Indies in West Indies, dismissing legends like Clive Lloyd and Gary Sobers. In addition, he also played several entertaining knocks for India in crisis. Ask your parents or grand parents on this, he was and is a proud
Indian out and out

Salim Durrani

Those days cricket lovers used to say "Pataudi hits six whenever he wants and Salim Durrani hits six whenever public wants". Good cricketer without godfather.

I could recollect his six's at chennai chepak stadium. He is so accurate in his shots, the sixer will land on the stand from where it was requested ?????

Hats off to Salim Durrani
by Ram Babu on Jun 08, 2011 05:30 PM

Good gesture by BCCI in honoring one of the legends. Perhaps the only cricketer in whose support people came out with the banners, no durrani - no test. He use to hit sixes on demand. Just wondering what would have been the situation had 20-20s and ODIs would have been in his playing time. He would have massacared all the bowlers. We love you Salim Bhat

He was a match winner in his days and have enjoyed watching him play and more listening to the Running Commentary during his oplaying time. BCCI should continue to honour such players. Otherwise sports lovers tend to forget their names. Only sometime back did our Veeru commenting that we never heard of Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy when some scribe asked him about them.

Very charismatic cricketer indeed
by Cric Fan on Jun 08, 2011 03:36 PM

Very popular and charismatic player. I remember the crowd chanting sixer! sixer! and he would ablige by hitting a six into that part of the stadium. So, crowds in different parts used to have fun chanting for sixes. That probably was also his undoing when playing well, since he would try to oblige once too often and get out. All said and done, he was an immensely talented and enjoyable cricketer. Kudos to him on being awarded the trophy.

Durrani was always entertaining and I have a lot of respect for him. I was too young for cricket when he was at prime. It is true authorities were not kind to him.

The news of Ms. Nigar not availing a single day leave in her long career of about 47 years is stunning. Is it not something of a record?...She deserves even more kudos.

Mr.Anand, who is showing "narrow minde" here. what is the need in bringing religion when we are discussing a former great?
