Dhobiji fans tame excuse
by ASHISH KUMAR on Jul 19, 2011 04:42 PM  | Hide replies

Excuse for poor record of dhoni in test is ridiculous.
It is a known fact that only top batsman of any team bats at top 5 position. dhoni is not in that league & thats why bats down the order.
Present series sehwag is not there- so its golden opportunity for him to open the inning & accomodate both yuvi/raiana in team. But can he dare to do it. Answer is no- as he knows he can't face quality bowling at top of the order.
So batting at no.7 is not by force but as per choice linked with his batting ability. he doesn't dare to open even in IPL now days due to limited batting ability. though he started in ODI as opener & scored few runs also on flat track againgt B grade bowling of slk/pak.
Later his batting limitation recoznized by opponents & he never dared to open the inning.
Even at no.7 - Gilly/Sanga/Prior etc has performed better than him in test cricket- i mean played few match winning inning in test.
Dhoni has not scored a single overseas century after 6 series & playing 6 yrs of cricket.
even bowler like kumble/agarkar has scored century in england batting at no.9.
So dhoni is never a worldclass player & no need to give tame excuses of multiple responsibility.

Rajesh, that is why we are all not in the plaing eleven. Out of 11, atleast 6-7 are supposed to be able to face 1 over of akhtar and tait. that is why we expect more of them.

Don't understand this best batsman debate!!
by manjunath nagappa on Jul 19, 2011 04:31 PM  | Hide replies

I really don't understand the greatest batsman debate. And I don't understand on what basis they say sachin is greatest. If you consider on the basis of number of runs, there are 4 players ponting, Dravid, Lara & Kallis averaging almost similar to Sachin in all forms of the game. If these players played as many games as Sachin played, i'm sure they will score as many runs as he has scored. Even though sachin scored runs against great bowlers of his time, he never dominated the bowlers like Mcgrath, Murali, Walsh, Wasim akram, Ambrose. The only bowler he dominated is shane warne. Compare Lara with him, he dominated Murali in srilanka, Mcgrath & Warne in Australia. He never was destroyer of attack like Viv Richards & Sobers. Only thing he has achieved more than thses great batsmen are, playing 22 years to make batting records, scoring more centuries than others and behaving in a dignified manner despite of so much of adulation (which is the only thing i admired in him). If ocnisder it he is not a great batsman, but his longetivity is better than and better disciplined that others.

buddy u hav got it all wrong...its not abt hw many runs u scored but how classy u were while scoring them...its abt hw much joy u give to the viewing audience.its the balance between showmanship and effectiveness that makes a great sportsman..which with sachin is definately much more than the 4 batsmen u mentioned...

i agree..very rightly said,it about a balance between showmanship and effectiveness..which should determine a great sportsman.

To take it further all 5 batsman under discussion are as efective as each other, but when it comes to pure showmanship (i.e. skill, elegance, array of different strokes) no one comes close to sachin...perhaps Lara may be..

The way you are replying to us means that you too are afraid of rising Dhoni's popularity.

While coming to comparison, I agree with you, they both cant be compared. They have different talents. One exceeds in batting and the other exceeds in carrying out so many responsibilities.
But you have to agree that Dhoni is 2nd only to Sachin when question of popularity comes

All these World XI are jokes.
Alec Stewart said it today.

Nevertheless, Dhoni will be shortlisted when he completes his career. He has so far played only 1/3rd of his career.

Dhoni will never be in any best XI. He is not at all posses any great ability with either bat or Keeping. He is not even 1/2 good as batsman as Gambhir and not even 1/2 good has Kirmani as keeper and he never going to win matches single handedly. He might score some good innings here or there. He really doesn't have that ability. He is lucky that he is handed a team of gifted players and a backing of corrupt BCCI officials to lead them. Otherwise he'd have been an ordinary member of this team. His only plus to the team is he bats better than other keeprs in India otherwise he doesn't required in the team

Sachin and Dhoni

All these Sachin fans always compare the batting records of Sachin and Dhoni.

I always say it is the impact that one creates for victory.

For that Dhoni does batting, Keeping, Captaincy.(far greater that Sachin)

Also if you have to compare the batting records, the other aspects must also come into picture like the batting positions of both, burder of captaincy & keeping etc. Remember when Sachin was Captain alone, he almost forgot to make runs, rest alone Wicket keeping

True, i think nobody has done more than dhoni in as many departments...

and he has taken all the responsibility very well...he has not buckled down under the pressure...the more responsibility you put on him the stronger he has become...the more he shines...

according to me in history of indian cricket nobody has made more impact than dhoni in so less a time...

he reminds of Atlas...taking all the weight on his shoulders uncomplainingly...

Hollow praise OR Truth ???
by Don on Jul 19, 2011 02:21 PM  | Hide replies

Cricket invented by England.
Yet, BBC has NOT considered Sachin for
" International Sports Personality"
for 22 YEARS.
Lara and Sobers were awarded by BBC.
England has NOT found Sachin for " Sir " award( KnightHood) even though.
Sachin has failed to be Noticed by World Media when it came for Laureus World SportsMan Nomination.
NOT known whether Sachin's deserves Nomination or NOT but it appears that when it comes to Big international Award, Sachin FALLS Short !!
Small INNER CIRCLE and those fans with Limited sports vision keet praising Sachin .
