Elderly players slow batting

One thing is for sure. The youngsters in Indian cricket are not selfish like th elderly statesmen. Raina and Vijay's dismissals prove that they cared more about victory than their averages. of course tell that to the likes of Dravid, Laxman and the world famous Tendulkar. Even if he was there, result would have been the same. Dravid is responsible for this draw. Pathetic effort by India. And this wouldn't be the first time Dhoni has snatched draw from the jaws of victory.

what did he say wrong? Basically we had all the resources to enforce a win. Dhoni will say his favorite dialogue - ' there is a thin line between foolishness and bravedo'. What the heck. I don't expect gr8 things from this team in England. if it wins I will be happy but no big expectations from this team.

We should not get into conclusion with one match.infact Every run counts for the match.when Tendulkar is in crease he will motivate other batman to play and tell the tricks and totally he is the back ground person.
It is a team work.

well said venkat, this is not T-20 to just go and finish off the matches. i dont know why certain people dont understand test cricket. when people like sehwag r batting, getting 6 runs per over is not a very big deal (even in tests). people should understand that this is team work. infact if one can resort to blame game, they should blame bowlers for not dismissing the tail enders soon (we have this problem from time immemorial). but they should give credit to the team effort. comments like the above dont help for a good cause.

Of course its teamwork..thats why it hurts when we did not go for a win. Seriously, for me as Indian fan, basic expectation is that as #1 team, 47 overs and you are suppose to get 180 runs. Its not 5 an over either. Laxman and Dravid still hope to make it to the ODI team...A win would have emphasised the need of this great folks..but no. Dravid doesnt rotate strike, doesnt want singles! Time to seriously phase out seniors. You can complain that I don't know anything abt cricket. All I want my team is to have is backbone . If you lose fighting, I would love it. Had he lost the match, pressure would have been immense but I am sure pressure is going to be immense now from media asking Dhoni why he didnt chase also. Either ways he would have been screwed. Why not go for glory?

There is no dearth of arm-chair critics in India. They played to their plan. And its not a rigid plan. It keeps changing with the game situation. Period.

Sir, what did our bowlers.they cant out no.9 batsman for 37 overs! Batsman not responsible for Draw.with negative bowling & fielding it is not easy to chase .Giving wicket for nothing is not a sign of good tactics.

Absolutely right Shashi and Denzil! There are plenty of people here in this forum who just do not understand the differences between test cricket and limited overs format where the dice is very heavily loaded in favour of the batsmen. So scoring 180, even in 10 overs, is not a big deal in T20 or for that matter even an ODI. May God grant wisdom and knowledge to such people. Amen!

whatever Shashi. 47 overs - 180 runs. less than 4 runs an over required. Are you telling me that #1 can't get it? Lame duck excuse for conditions. We should have gone for kill. Simple truth is, Dhoni wanted to make sure that he doesnt lose the series. Nothing wrong except, it just broke my heart that as ardent supporter, I didnt get what I wanted. Indian win. 2-0 sounds soo good than 1-0. Had we lost 6 wickets also, we had players till 11 who could have drawn the match. Ugh

Jathie, of course no one can complain that u dont know cricket with the stats u have provided. it broke my heart also to see a draw from the team#1. but lets us come to terms with the reality. getting to #1 is a big effort, i do understand. but retaining that spot is a bigger task for any team. what if we have pushed for a win, and we lost 3-4 wickets (losing quick wickets on the 5th day is not new for any team). the whole nation would be solding team india for losing a match which could have been easily drawn.....! And not even australia (in their glory days) could have depended on their tail-end to draw a match. It would have been great to see a 2-0 victory, but let us agree on the fact that we are not yet a killer team as on today.

The final test
by Viswanathan on Jul 10, 2011 10:33 PM  | Hide replies

India lost a golden opportunity of winning the final test against WI because of the reprieve given by Dravid yesterday when he dropped Chanderpaul.
Today I felt Dhoni should have used Raina more as he might have produced the required breakthrough inspite of giving some runs.

Mishra would have been a handful on this pitch. Dhoni does not seem to like mishra and how else would u justify 3 pacers on this pitch. Anyways, India under dhoni did not deserve to win this match due to wrong selection.
