When 8 wickets down, SA were assured that the target was unachievable by Indian team. So, decided to give some bowling practice to Peterson, Botha and other part bowlers a practice before the World cup. That allowed Yusuf and Zaheer to get settled. When the asking rate came below 6, they got rid of Pathan and won the match.
India was never in control over the match the whole day.
This is also to note that the 2 matches won by India were very close. The result of the series should be actually read as 5-0 in favor of SA, rather than 3-2.

Clive loyd, Ricky ponting or Dhoni one thing in common they had great individual contributors during their winning regime. It has nothing to do with them but the great players in their side. Without them like what ponting and dhoni are facing they would be absolute zero.
