Rushwat Pawar
Gambhir for captain ..
by Rushwat Pawar on Jan 24, 2011 07:02 PM  | Hide replies

he seems to have cemented his place in the team in both test and odi formats. Has been a decent captain of his Ranji team for some time now. Kick Dhoni out and let him regain his batting form to earn his keep in the team. Get Irfan and Pujara in the team wit Kohli and Yousuf as regulars

I agree. Let Dhoni resign as Captain and exit gracefully for his mistake in fielding first after winning the toss in 5fth ODI and losing the match and series. He also does not score runs and save matches as he used to do. If he does not resign, kick him out before the World Cup. I hope the selectors read these views.

I also agree. Gambhir is future captain. Dhoni initially played well to regain his place in Indian team and to make money. He has earned lot thru cricket and also by advertisement. He is know list bothered if he kicked from captaincy or from team. So lets kick him out and allow youngster who are knowking the doors.

I think it will not work. If you observe, who so ever took captancy had failed ex. Sachin, Dravid etc. It will be better if sombody else (other than imp batsmen & bowlers)should be given this responsibility. At least nobody can give excuse of pressure of captancy for their failure. Remember Dhoni when he was not captain he was a blast, but since he has become captain he is only a fuska phataka. How many half centuries he has scored after becoming captain??????????

D/L method

Can someone explain why India has to score 15 more runs to win in the same number of overs under D/L nethod?

At the start of the SA innings the match was scheduled to be 50 overs hence SA planned their innings accordingly. Only towards the 40 over stage the match was rain hit and reduced to 46 overs. Since the team batting second has the liberty of planning their innings based on a 46 over match the D/L calculation awards the extra runs to the team batting first on pro-rata basis.

Raj

Even if match would have been of complete 50 overs then also team batting second have liberty of planning their innings based on 50 overs....so your reason is not explaining completely...I agree with sundaram..why India had to score 15 more runs to win?

It is not my reason mind you it s D/L :), you have missed our a critical point here the team batting first never knew that the it is gonna be a 46 over game hence D/L rule says the extra runs need to be added.

Btw, I was just explaining the little I knew on D/L upon Sundaram's request & neither agreeing nor disagreeing to this rul. Thanking you all:)

Poor shot selection by Yusuf leads india to loose the game..the game was very much ON and he could have betted sensibly...but after all he is a Pathan who doesn't think too much

yes,you are right Yusuf, Pathan had
enough balls to take away the game
from S.A. before choosing the wrong
ball to hit out of the park. But why Pathan to blame because he
played a knock of life. Take the
case of Yuvraj. His body language
clearly shows that he is physically
unfit alongwith loss of confidence.
Taking wickets is his second prio-
rity, making run first. I am only
writing about Yuvraj because he
used to be a match winner besides
electrifying fielder.I am sure, he
can't regain his form before world
cup and Dhoni has problem in hand
for selecting final eleven. Magic
will not happen simply by playing
in sub continent. Forget winning
world cup.

i am not with your comment saying that yousuf has made poor shot, what i say that the failure goes to upper and middle order or else yousuf should start at 3 or 4.

Girish, you must not take away credit when India won 2nd.& 3rd.ODI because of collective effort.Ashwin
dropped a simple catch of Amla and
result is before us.Dhoni's defensive approach, leaked many singles. There are manyif and buts
and no use cry over split milk.
I repeat, this world cup is not for
us.

Teams Zero committment

No Indian player played with an intention of winning the Game nor the Captain (helicoptor shot- making fun of himself)....They should be ashamed of their performance..Besides Kohli & Pathan none played up to the mark..Parthiv is an exception.

Poor show by India's top order
by sameer drolia on Jan 24, 2011 10:50 AM

I am amazed at seeing media interested in writing only for the pyrotechnics achieved by Pathan yday. There is no mention of dismal, rather spineless and shameless surrender by the Indian top order batsmen (yet again??).

India had all their moments, only to be thrown away with utter disdain. In the last test, they were able to reduce SA to six wickets down for 130, and still SA could walk away with the final score of 340. As if Dhoni is adamant (and so he is!!) that he repeated this mistake again in the 4th ODI to allow the Proteas win the match from 118/5.

To my opinion, the series both test and ODI has more been lost by India, then it is earned by Proteas (with due respect to SA). It has been marked with some shoddy captaincy, equally abysmal shot selection by Indian top order, negative approach to cricket and the lack of intent from the Indians.

Can some one answer the following questions for me:

1)      When was the last occasion when Bhajji tried to take wickets (and did not want to CONTAIN batsmen)?
2)      If India get reduced to something like 90/5, they invariably fold completely within 170-180 howsoever well the tail wags for India. On the other hand, even if opponents are 118/8 at the end of power play, Dhoni is a happy person to spread his field AS MUCH as he can.
3)      Why on earth is Dhoni so adamant? What purpose did it solve by choosing Chawla? Dhoni said that Chawla adds variety and is a useful bat. Then, why was Chawla dumped for 2 years?
