Agree Raina should bat up the order. In fact, he should replace Graeme Smith and open the innings for South Africa

Drop Sachin NOW!
by Michael Angelo on Jan 13, 2011 12:16 PM  | Hide replies

Sachin is a waste. He never wins matches for India. Viru/VVS are selfless souls. Only they can win matches for India. What is in your soul manifests into the luck for team. Sachin is a selfish selfish selfish soul(assuming he indeed has a soul). As long as Sachin is in Team India we will perform badly. In Tests VVS luck makes us win. In ODIs India has no chance. Atleast make Gambhir captain.

Bad bowling, worse batting
by Cric Fan on Jan 13, 2011 12:13 PM

The Indian pace bowling on a helpful pitch was pathetic. Nehra is another under-achiever who rarely seems to get things right. Added to it, his body-language and sloppy fielding are further liabilities. India needs a bowler or two who can bowl at over 135 Ks. consistently and accurately. The slower bowlers brought some control and sense to proceeedings but by then the SA score was already menacing.

The batting, starting with Sachin was worse. Though Steyn, tsotsobe and Morkel bowled well, as usual, the Indian approach showed no thinking. It was overall a pathetic performance by Team India. It looks like India will never perform well in the first match of any tournament. lets hope the guys wake up and start performing. First thing, drop Nehra. The guy is a waste.

bowling
by Ruler on Jan 13, 2011 11:57 AM  | Hide replies

All knows, the problem India facing is the pace bowling. We don;t have bowlers who can bowl 140 kh consistently. But we have to live with it and utilize available options. The option is Sreesant and Ishant. I have never rated Nehra as a good bowler. Since we have experienced left arm seamer Zaheer in the team, why we need another left arm seamer Nehra? Dhoni should think about this. Yesterday Nehra was pathetic. Sree is injured, but we should include Ishant in place of Nehra.

Batting:- it happens sometimes in the first match. But we will bounce back as we did in the test series. All the best team india.

can u say for sure , ishant will perform or sree will perform. All indian bowlers are same. Had u seen the seen the bowling of morkel yesterday. It aws totally unplayable for any indian batsman.
indian batsman have not grown in sucn a bowling conditions. They play ranji where best bowlers are guys like nehra , then how can u expect they will play morkel efficiently. Actually when condition differs , any cricketer will suffer more or less.

Yes, Actually we are lack of good bowling attack like SA, We never find a good bowlers after Kapil Dev. Only Zaheer han is continuing as main bowler for our team since long time. But he is also lack of consistency some times. We are the 2nd Highest Population country in the world. So why we are uanble to produce a quality fast bowlers like other countries. Only the options is our selection comittee have to go watch galli cricket to find some good fast bowlers for our country.

Dhoni
by Bada Bhai on Jan 13, 2011 11:40 AM  | Hide replies

Of late though Dhoni had been genuinely lucky to have a strong batting line up and not so bad bowling attack..I would say his merits as captain in the absence of either has opened up somewhat..he knew right from the beginning that he has limited options, so he had to change tactics..of course some of them fail..but then in cricket as a captain you should have plan B,C,D ready...so it seems his mental over-dependency on Sehwag, Sachin and Gautam to perform is not quite justified..his policy of retaining with certain bowlers and not rotating them properly leaked away lot of runs, the score to chase would have been far less..of late his comments do not seem to that mature and his dealing withe Sreesanth episode is highly condemnable..Dhoni should understand that there is more good is prodding the positives of a bowler than speaking about his negatives in open..as a captain he must show confidence in his bowlers...seems he has some regional bias, though he doesn't want to express it candidly

The way Yuvraj got out was pethetic.I think he is overstaying in the team at the expense of other young good players. His body language is as if he doesn't care.He has to become leaner.Just because he hit six sixers a long time back, how many oppurtunities are you going to give him?One can understand a failure once in a while, but in his case it is going on for too long.

When it comes to One Dayers, Unlike Tests, India cannot afford to have specialist bowlers who cannot bat, as the bowlers service at the maximum can be utilised for 10 overs.

It would always be better to field a side of 11 in which ten players can bowl as well as bat, of course fielding standards should any way be the criteria in selecting a side. Except wicket keeper all the players should be able to bowl and contribute handsomely with bat, if need be.

Always finds it difficult to play on difficult pitches.

Also, if umpire does not support him on LBW and caught behind decisions, he will not reach even double digits.
